Hmm interesting. I have looked at a tilt shift but didnt want to spend the price they are selling for. When I get into larger houses that will help build my portfolio, I will look into renting one. I am shooting houses quickly because they want them on the market fast.
Thank you for your input.
Thank you for your input.
What you've got is fine but you'll have to experiment a bit. Maybe bring a laptop along to a location and take some test shots first.
Most image editing software has tools for correcting keystoning. First step is correcting barrel distortion which should be automatic if lens data is still in the file. Then look at straightening/leveling by using a vertical line in the center of the frame or horizontal lines as a guide. Next adjust vertical perspective to correct the converging verticals. You can also use the horizontal adjustment tool to center the composition for the vanishing point. Finally you might have to pull the image in horizontally or stretch it vertically if it's looking too compressed from more extreme corrections and use the original image as a guide.

Not sure what it's like in your area, but back up in Sacramento, we had several shops that rented out every lens imaginable for very reasonable prices. I knew some pro's that despite their massive arsenal would still rent out specialized lenses, or even just rent one before buying to see if they like it.

For a nicer house if vacant and there is nothing else going on, I would bring my laptop to spend a little more time on the photos. That way I can add them to my portfolio and shoot houses on the side too.
Thank you for your input. I really do appreciate it!

I photographed the Formula E season finale in New York last weekend, my first race with full press credentials. Motorsport photography is what I want to do full time so it was pretty exciting.

Nations Photo Lab has worked well for me, but I haven't done anything larger than 11x17 yet. Just don't check the box allowing them to do color corrections, a family member did that and it looked awful, I think they just hit auto prior to printing, they don't assume you've already processed it I guess.

I use a 5D Mark III for motorsport, I want to upgrade to a 1D for better burst rate and autofocus tracking which is where the 5D lacks.

Still a bit baffled with the difference in colour between 750 and 850, though.

The technical restrictions must have been quite serious for nikon to go for a new mount, 99% assured there will be a good adapter from them. I'd rather they make a new mount and be able to design lenses specifically for the short flange distance of a mirrorless design, hopefully new lenses will be priced competitively to attract people to switch over unlike sony.
Good to see nikon weren't totally sitting on their heels all this time and were just letting sony/fuji do a lot of the hard work. Also good to see they are not making miniature cameras, even looks like there is a top lcd.

I'm curious if Sony did the sensor but I guess they most likely did

I know it's not pro quality but I'm excited about a new toy on its way! I just ordered the Insta360 One. It's a 360 camera and has some incredible features specifically "bullet time" where you can basically film something like out of the matrix. Under $300 so figured why not.
It will be here Wednesday and I'll post some stuff after that!

Just got back from NZ's South Island. With clear skies I experienced some beautiful light and was fortunate to experience a few sunrises and sunsets where I was the only person there.
Wondering if anyone here has experienced this. Got to one location early and then a van rolled up. I went from enjoying the peace to 8 people with tripods and an instructor lining up behind me for a tour/workshop. The female instructor says "could you take a few steps back?" Decided to be a team player and oblige since I've photographed the spot several times before and was shooting a 100mp+ pano where I could be a little more flexible with framing.
Then she added a few more words to that sentence which really rustled me. " It'll be a better photo anyway ."
Strong arrogance. Welcome to the instagram generation where once they get enough worshippers hitting the like button and praising their photoshopped digital creations they feel like they know it all.

Until she said that I was okay with moving. I realize they're all paying $2000+ for 3 days of being led around and told how to take landscape photos — I was fine with stepping back even though I did have a specific composition in mind.
But the arrogance of that statement was tough to take.

Just to add to that I think it's really important to be helpful and humble out there. I've had people politely ask if it's okay to take a photo from where I'm standing. No problem. I've moved my tripod out of the way for people before because they've probably traveled even further than I have and whether they use a phone or a Phase One is irrelevant.
The reality is anyone can take a great photo. It's got nothing to do with Instagram followers or how much you spent on gear.

Reminds me of a bit ago, my girl and I were staying at a friend's beach condo way down south. We took decided to walk to the restaurant that we were meeting everyone at, that was literally up the beach. Of course the it's close to sunset, and people are flocking to the shore to setup shop. In a 100 yard walk, there were at least 30 people with big ass setups. It made it feel like we couldn't even walk without having to worry about pissing people off getting in shots etc. We did anyways, but still…
update, got the insta360 one yesterday! I've only had a few moments to test it out, but it's really fuarkin cool. Bullet mode, aka matrix mode, is really cool and I can see a lot of potential for some awesome and unique clips. The editing capability is really straight forward and easy to pick up. Just have to practice with it more and get the nuances down. Going to experiment with it while walking the pup and see what I can do.

Same goes for me of course. You and your girlfriend taking a shot is every bit as important as me taking one. I don't want to get in your way and there's no reason why we can't take turns, e.g. I move my stuff out of the way for you.
It's also important to learn to work quickly. At that same location a few years back I patiently waited at least half an hour for a Canadian photographer and his girlfriend to finish light painting the subject with flash. Then when I went to take my shot some tourists rolled up and there were flashlights everywhere. I lit them all up and asked "everyone done with the lights?" Flashlights went off and for 2 minutes I took a 3 shot pano then packed up my gear. If I couldn't get it done quickly then it was never going to happen.

^^ with that kind of attitude, they better have some sort of a permit/exclusive location pass, or they're going to have to deal with me in the frame.
