Just got my 79 Paul custom back from the resto guy. The neck twisted following the flood. Well it’s straight as fuk now and has a refret. It plays so damn good now

Love that Marshall stack tone man haha. I would love to have the space and environment where I could play a full 8x12 setup in my home.

I just re-watched my video and it’s predictably terrible lol and I’m tempted to set it too private, I was (and still am) drunk af lol.

Lifetime reps for the Marshall full stack. You don't see that much anymore.

I still reckon a loop pedal would be a solid investment + slow everything down and add more bars so you can take your time building lines over changes.

The temptation is there to outline chords and rip arpeggios but one of the best exercises is to find common tones between key changes and develop sequences around them.

I don’t know chords or arpeggios really, this is all (clearly) just my ear and the fact that I haven’t done much improvisation.

I actually tried to do real improvisation there, not just recycling my same licks over and over or spending days crafting the solo - it’s just pure improvisation over chords I’m not comfortable with.

I challenge any of your motherfukkers other than z4v4 to post YOUR improvisation over this tune WITHOUT over-use of the pentatonic scale.

Do you guys have the BALLS to post a video of a straight improvisation over a track you’re not comfortable playing over?

Nobody has posted more videos than me here srs.. I was the king of posting videos and not giving a chit.. I would post more but I only have a classical with me because I'm travelling.
I was just fuking with you though, it's not that bad… I can't improvise for chit, need like 5 takes at least on a backing track to get something that sounds ok. Also improvising is ****ing stupid 99% of the time unless you're Guthrie level good.. Just write a fuking solo and stop fuking about m8

Last one is from like 2 years ago m8… Ain't got time for that chit anymore. Worst feeling ever is when I open my folder of unfinished songs from time to time, I've got some legit bangers on there that will probably never be recorded now.

Ye but I was way happier.. Nothing better than spending all night writing a song with no stress from work or bitches. I also wish I tried to make a band or something and at least play a few concerts. I will never experience the rush from playing live with a band at this point..
What about you bro? I remember you were obsessed with technique and chit, still playing guitar as much?

WFH a lot, just paying the mortgage on my condo lol.

It's still not too late for you to join a band but I get that you have time constraints. It'll be a disservice to yourself though if you never experience playing on stage to an enthusiastic crowd.

I've been playing a bit more guitar recently but lately have been getting into piano and bass. I'm really enjoying bass atm.

So z4v4, when taking my drunken improv into account what do I need to do to make it sound more like you? Do I have to transcribe a bunch of annoyingly difficult solos for years? Do I need to actually learn theory to some insane degree?

What's the FASTEST way to get from where I am to where you are?

I know I don't currently own a guitar, but I did play jazz and improv'd a solo over Charlie Parker's Bird for senior music class. Improv'ing in front of an audience is a tricky gig indeed, very easy to panic or fck up or forget what in the piss you are doing.

My advice is know the theory very well: Scales, box patterns, chord/arpeggio shapes, all the ways in which different scales work over which chords/progressions etc. Play over diverse backing tracks in different keys and tempos.

I also heard from Andy Aledort, an editor from the magazine Guitar World, that you can pause your favorite songs or solos and insert your own things in there and practice getting in and out.

And just keep practising improv over and over. It's arguably the most creative aspect of music and creativity IMO, can't exactly be taught (and don't lose your chit).
Back off, Warchild.

Seriously.

I have a 30W and the 100W marshall, and even at bedroom volume levels, the 100w sounds so much better pushing those big cabs.

Howdy Swim….

Do you still have a link to your original songs?
I'd check 'em out.

About being in a live, original music band?
I was in live bands for a decade and there's no drug in the world quite like it.
But….it's a (4) or (5) part marriage that wreaks with hurdles.

Got it.

I listened to few of your vids.
Some good playing and you have developed your own compositional technique.

Well done and good luck with your music endeavors.

As I eluded to, starting a band can be a daunting task.

Thanks for response.

I think my main thing is not being able to find on the fly what I hear in my head. If you listen to my improv it becomes obvious that I’m often looking for the notes I hear in my head as opposed to knowing exactly where they are.

I have a pretty tremendous ear from just the sheer amount of guitar music I’ve absorbed so it’s frustrating that my ear is better than my ability to physically produce the music with accuracy. It’d be nice if theory was the key to helping me there.

Ya bro, like a live band that plays original music.. I just want to experience that once in my life, maybe also smash a few groupies and do a few bumps after the show… Then I can fuk off back to my life with no regrets.
There are always people looking for bandmates at least in the US.
******** groups are a good place to start.

Man I would love to be able to crank a 100W Marshall in my home without the cops being called, you’re living the dream.

Yeah, Woody5’s got a a set huevos!
I got my taylor's a little backwoods shop: Basically an old hippie has it in his barn, open a few nights a week and Saturdays. I've been shopping there for years so he hooked me up with a Koa mini when I got the big taylor. I"m really impressed with it, it projects some serious volume for such a small instrument.

Lol I think I have the volume on the 100W head at 2 on the lead channel with the gain fairly low at 3 or 4 for those videos.

Yeah the Taylor Minis are amazing little guitars that often sound better to me than their 100 and 200 full size models.

My go-to modeling tone is a “50W Jumped Plexi” into a “4x12 cab with Celestion G12Ms” into a delay and reverb. Marshall is usually my favorite tones to play through.
