Depends on the watch for me, I have my beaters for a reason. But I'd hate scratching up a dress watch

For me it just adds character. I tend to not like to baby my watches

Just curious - why done with the Panerai/what was the issue with it? I was heavily leaning towards making that my next watch, next to my GMT II. I've read about people having issues with them in the past, but was going to go for it anyways.

I'd certainly go for it if I were you. It was an awesome piece, that I hope to acquire again someday. I bought a used one, the 372, with the plexi crystal and it had an issue with it. It had formed what looked like water spots that covered the inside of the crystal completely. It was only visible in certain lighting, but when I saw it it drove me nuts. It is a lovely watch with an awesome wrist presence, so I'd still say get it.

Thanks for the response man. Yeah that would drive me nuts as well. But it definitely has that wrist presence. Good luck on your next purchase

Little bit late to the new thread, 3 weeks of camping with the scouts. Only one wristshot cuz my phone battery was down 24/7

Bought a goldplated Kienzle ladies handwinder in germany at a flea market for 5€ original plan was to dissasemmble/reassemble but turns out movement as to come out through the front so now I have to improvise. Also found an old ass table clock from my grandfather's parents with an open mechanism and balance wheel regulator. Now to catch up on 3 weeks of the dink.

Awesome. Thanks man.

Now I have it down to these two:

Rolex Submariner 116613 LN two tone 18k

or Rolex 41mm Datejust II 116334 Grey Diamond

Both should be around $10k or so if I get lucky. Any input or opinions, fellas? Thanks.

Going to be my first Rolex and first luxury watch. I can finally spare an extra $10k for a beautiful starter watch.

personally i would go with the Sub, dont like the combination of grey dial with diamonds, also the sub is a more versatile watch, can fit every look (can be worn casual aswell as classy)while the datejust is definately a dressy watch

TBH, new is new.

You didn't pay for a scratched watch so you shouldnt expect one, if it was decently expensive then it's indicative of a failure in the quality control and im sure they'd want to know about it anyway.

GMT Master II 2-tone. or GMT Master II Black Bezel 2 tone. or Blue Dial Sub 2 tone.

at 10K you can also take a look at some 2nd Hand AP's or a new Omega DSOTM or GSOTM Both under 9k. Also worth taking a look.

Its on the chapter ring that vertically connects the dial to the bezel/sapphire (not sure if that is techincally accurate, but thats what it looks like).

Unless you turn the watch to view it almost side on and are looking for it, you wont see it. Certainly never when looking at the time, it just bugged me when i noticed it, and wasnt really happy with how the customer service department was responding. I am not going to send it back though, it isn't noticeable and I am happy with the watch. Pics to follow.

Ok so here are the pics. First is the zoomed pic on the angle obviously. The other gunk is just dust / reflection. Apart from the scratch on the chapter ring at approx 12 o'clock it is otherwise pristine. Other pics for reference in everyday scenario.

And cleaned up a little.

if its inside the case, then it couldnt have been scratched by you. take it back and tell them to change it. what are you waiting for?

The cost, risk and time associated with sending something in the mail from Australia to Germany. For something I can't really notice unless I specifically go looking for it. I was waying up if it was worth it, but I don't think it is. Everyone I have showed in person says its nothing, but of course everyone is different so I was expecting different opinions in a watch thread of course. Still making up my mind, but after the email exchanges I had I don't I want to send it back to the manufacturer anyway.

when did you buy it? if the place you bought it from is local go show them and have them fix it there or get a new 1. its unreasonable for them to expect you to wait half a year so they can fix something that shouldnt be defective anywas. especially if you bought it int he last month or so
