We should have a some sort of theme or competition type of events.

If any of you watch Jared Polin, he use to do a monthly competition with certain themes which got me more motivated to get out there and take pictures. However he stopped on the month I decided to take part

Does anyone here enter competitions?

I agree, I need some motivation to shoot. I used to enter contests through the photography magazines and ones put out by Nikon when I was much younger, but I haven't recently. Doesn't DPreview do some sort of contests still?

Also, can any of the Nikon brahs recommend me a logical next lens? I'm shooting a D750, and I have a 24-120mm that came with the camera and a 50mm 1.8 I got for my birthday. I'm mainly into landscapes and travel stuff. Anyone have experience with the Tokina 16-28mm F2.8 lens on full frame?

I have a friend that wants to do a couples shoot soon. I will give it a shot.
Damn thats crazy. Yeah i'd imagine, you'd have to be ridiculously far but the seperation would be sick!
That lens does look hnng for sports though.

Heck, i'm too lazy to hold anything like that for this thread, but there are tons of ******** groups that do that. Same with other websites.

Is 24 not shooting your landscape needs? Sure wider is better, but 24-120 really covers so much its crazy.

I'd say go for a 70-200 if you are shooting people, but 16-24 is pretty damn wide. 16 especially.

It is pretty damn wide! I used to shoot a 10-22mm when I had my 60D but there were very few situations that I used it at the wide end. You're right… the wide angle sounds good in theory but it's useless for a lot of things just because the perspective is so weird. I would use it for car/ truck interiors, which I shoot a lot of, the 24mm did fine on the last one I shot but I was wishing I had something a little wider so I could get closer to the steering wheel. Maybe I should hold off on it and look for a telephoto. What 70-200mm are you shooting, and is it on full frame? I'm thinking of just going with the Nikon 70-200mm F/4 (instead of the 2.8), the extra F stop wouldn't really benefit me since the camera has such a usable high ISO range.

The tamron 70-200 2.8 is the best you can get. VR+ a tad more sharper than the nikon =win. A little slower autofocus, but for what you shoot, this shan't be an issue.

Oh did i also mention it has some dec macro capabilities.

I read that and thought that can't be right but according to DXO it is. And we're not talking a few bucks cheaper either. $1499 on B&H vs. $2395 for the Nikon.

I've never bought a third party lens but that's because most of my lenses are 5-10 years old when Sigma and Tamron weren't making glass like this. Starting from scratch today I would.

That's insane that Sigma (art lenses) and Tamron have gotten so much better. I've had lenses from both companies in the past that were absolute crap, from bad build quality, back focusing, soft, etc. Thanks for the suggestion.

Swearing by Tamron. My 24-70 and 70-200 SP lenses from them are insanely good performers. The new 35mm and and 45mm look promising as well, and are under $600 from what I saw. I get a lot of flack from other photographers because I'm not using Canon glass, or when I suggest Tamron over Nikon/Canon glass. Usually for no other reason other than it's "third party so it can't be as good". Completely untrue in this day. I almost see no reason to have Canon glass when third parties like Tamron or Sigma are doing it better, and cheaper.

I've heard of people having focus issues with the Tamron 150-600 but those were early copies. I'm sure they've worked it out by now. I've had issues with some Art lenses not focusing (also early copies), as well as read a lot of people having issues with them. Though others have had no issues from the get go from either brand. From my experience with the new Tamron stuff, it's been spot on every time.

agreed with all. my first tamron was an old 17-55 or whatever and i thought it was just crap ass build quality and slow focus.

once i decided to get into wildlife, i looked at all the options and ended up going with the tamron 150-600 since it was best bang for buck. I was so impressed with it on my first shoot at the zoo, i ended up getting the 24-70 vc and 70-200 vc shortly after. they are especially impressive when you compare the price difference.

Tamron has impressed the fck out of me, to be honest. Of course, they will never ever match the name brands in focus speed since they have to reverse engineer and whatnot, but its pretty close. Their VC system is really good too.

I'm on the Tamron bandwagon as well…. i have the 15-30, 24-70, and the 70-200. beasts of glass. 15-30 has a bit of distortion on the wide end and doesn't accept filters…. other than that they take fine pictures and the VC is amazing. If they release an 85mm VC 1.8 prime i'll be all over that!

I had the 70-200 2.8 Marco Non-VC version for canon and did not like it. Not very sharp, terrible autofocus. I sold it and bought a used 70-200 2.8 Non-IS canon and love it.

My 17-50 2.8 Tamron on the other hand, was fantastic.

yeah i heard not so great things about that non-VC version, but i think you would be very impressed with the new version with VC. its a complete redesign.

anywhoooooo, i just picked up a 7D mkii and extreme CF card. lolz. can't wait to shoot some bears up in the mountains

The new line of Tamron stuff has "SP" (super performance) in the product name. That's the stuff we're all talking about. I wouldn't doubt if your older Tamron was bad. I always thought of them as a low end company before the SP line came out.

On a related note: Edt: Deal gone, sold out
Tamron's 150-600mm for $779 after rebate:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tamron-SP-15...item4882e5ba2c

These are new USA versions, not grey market. I am so damn tempted to buy one, but I really would have no regular use for it. My 300mm got zero use when I had it.

Picked up a film camera Pentax Superprogram and the thing is actually quite fun. Do any of the bigger stores still do film delevelopment or gotta go to the smaller shops?

3 moar boar days until Utah/Nevada for a 4 day photography weekend. Day 1 at Arches, backpacking/camping. Day 2 a 3 hour photography tour of antelope canyon, horseshoe bend. Day 3 hiking Buckskin gulch, about 1/2 of it, so maybe 8 miles of a slot canyon 2' to 10' wide. Then day 4 at Zion Nat Park.

Anyone been to Zion before? Narrows or Angels peak? Don't have the day fully planned yet.

Anyone been to Zion before? Narrows or Angels peak? Don't have the day fully planned yet.

Any SLC brahs have experience with the REI rentals? Needing a tent, can't fly with that ****.
LOL i'm doing the exact same trip In a couple days. I'll be there by mid week next week. Good luck out there!

I'll be staying in Page Arizona and move from there to the parks
When you come to think of it, almost all human behaviour and activity is not essentially any different from animal behaviour. The most advanced technologies and craftsmanship bring us, at best, up to the super-chimpanzee level. Actually, the gap between, say, Plato or Nietzsche and the average human is greater than the gap between that chimpanzee and the average human.
