Any of you guys use a dream board (literally a list and cut images of your goals in life) and do positive affirmations on top of meditation? Figured Id do a morning and night session with 5-10min of calm meditation and then 5min of reflection/dreamboard affirmations.

What I like about the meditations is that it was never intended to be a book. Marcus wrote them as a sort of.. reminder/note for himself to reflect on here and there. So when you're reading it, you're getting an honest look into the mind of him and the kinds of thoughts that he tried to hold to because the only audience it was meant for was himself. I don't know the exact details but someone came across them after his death and published it. When reading it, keep in mind he's really talking to himself.
Absolutely. That's what makes it even more powerful, I think. I imagine him in a camp in Asia or another part of Europe, writing these ideas and reflecting on past writings, inspiring himself to be a just and true Emperor. Powerful.

Sort of… I have a really complex visualization process that helps me to really see myself in the future doing things I want to be doing.

Some days I do a 5-minute journal, where I add what my goals for the day are and stuff, then at the end of the day I recap and reflect. Here is the template I use:

Morning
I am grateful for…

1
2
3

What would make today great?
1
2
3

Daily affirmations. I am…

Evening
Three amazing things that happened today…

1.
2.
3.

How could I have made today better?

Lately it's been all about power lists. Name 3-5 things you absolutely must do today, then just crush it and finish them all as efficiently as possible. Every single day.

Repped brother

Let the doubters doubt.

The key is to make a 100% commitment to change your destructive habits right from the root, and that's your thoughts. I used to laugh at and mock people who believe in the law of attraction and thought they were idiots. It was me who was the idiot. My commitment to a better life with positive thinking has been going on now for about 6 months and I can't believe how much has changed. The opportunities and solutions to your problems will present themselves to you with this mindset. It's no joke.

Exactly man, ever since I started this about 4 months ago, things really started falling into place.
I still can't believe how much improved in this short amount of time.

Several times I've found myself going back to my old habits, but reminding myself how rewarding this mindset is I eventually snap back right at it.

Hey bro. I agree with you that if your DNA combines in just the right way, there is very little self-reflection one must do. For these people, their life seems to just blend from one HBB to the next, from one CEO10k/day job to the next.

But for the rest of us, outlook and self-image have a tremendous influence on whether you LDAR or make it.

Positive thinking is only for retards who have everything they need to succeed but use negative thinking to bring themselves down (lot of them on misc). IF ONLY POSITIVE THINKING MADE YOUR LIFE BETTER THAT MEANS YOU WERE A MASSIVE RETARD WHO ILLOGICALLY USED NEGATIVE THINKING BEFORE. Try being a skinny twig, no amount of positive thinking is going to give you girls/make you happy. That is why I am lifting now. Once I gain a certain amount of mass, I can unlock 4/10 girls and above, and then I will be happy. I already do positive thinking because I never did suicide as a virgin up to this age. So I am strongest than all of you and better at positive thinking than all of you.

The Collective Consciousness is strong today misc brahs. I was just about to start The Official Self-Development and Growth thread and came across this awesome discussion.

OP said something that is of particular power- the morning ritual. This is HUGEly powerful. I am a Coach/Hypnotherapist and I have a daily practice of establishing a powerful mindset every day. So does my coach. So do my clients. I do it because the most effective people in the world do the same thing. Nearly 90% of the most successful CEOs in a recent-ish study reported having a morning "set your mind right" practice.

This is the equivalent of lifting for your mind. It establishes a positive outlook which carries us through our day. I prescribe the same practice to clients. Probably one of the most simple, effective and powerful life hacks that most people aren't using yet.

Great thread misc brehs.

Absolutely agreed. I genuinely look forward to my routine each morning. Rise, quick stretch, focus on my mind and what's around me, open the windows and gaze outside for a few seconds. Breathe, relax my shoulders, I'm always so tense.. it's something I'm working on. My goal is to not rush. Start the coffee, brush teeth, etc. Then do my 5 min journal, affirmations, read my list of virtues that I want to live by, visualization, DuoLingo for 3-4 lessons, read my book for a few pages just to get the day started right. By the time I am done with all that I am usually enjoying the coffee in my office at work or at home on the weekends. Seems tedious but I enjoy it. And I am sure it'll change going forward, but right now I'm engraining these habits into my day.

So usually by like 7 or 730 in the morning I've already read a bunch of pages from my book, I've already though about what kind of person I want to be for the day (setting the tone with intent), I've reviewed and learned something new in a new language, and I've visualized my long-term goals so that I can focus on my short-term goals that day.

Also, rising early is key I think too.

I'd be interested to hear more about hypnotherapy. After reading a lot into mindfulness and visualizations and stuff, I fully believe in hypnosis. I think the term for it is just misunderstood. People thing of the guy with the pocket watch in front of your face.

This is a solid morning ritual. It's an often overlooked truth that when something is important, we do it first. Lots of clients complain they "can't find the time" for this or that- so I say, do it first.

I have a similar practice that includes meditation and what I call Devotional Learning, where I will read or listen to a book or other resource that puts me in a great state. Cultivating this state is critical for what I do. If I show up worn out or distracted to my work, my clients suffer and I am not doing the work of helping them get free- because I'm not.

Hypnosis is the juice, man. You're right it's misunderstood. Yes you can make people quack like ducks but the more interesting questions are WHY is that possible and WHAT ELSE is possible if you can get a grown ass man to quack like a duck infront of a theater of hundreds of people? What else could he do, be, or have when harnessing this power?

I've worked with people who have ended pain, disease, depression, anxiety, unwanted behaviors… because they tapped into the power of their own deep mind. I used this same power to cure myself of 10+ years of low back pain that ended my career as a Personal Trainer. Migraines too. Now I give that chit to others. It works.

That's really neat. What's the best way to go about finding a local person to work with on this kind of stuff? And what kind of prices are we talking about, if you don't mind me asking? Seems like this could be supplemental to my next steps of growth for sure.

Price (and quality) varies from city to city, but lots of us work via skype/zoom so you don't always have to find a local person. I typically charge $100/hour, or less for packages of 3-6 sessions depending on the need. That's in the middle of the range.

For anyone interested in Stoicism buy The Daily Stoic By Ryan Holiday, right now. Theyre daily meditations from Seneca, M. Aurelius, and Epictetus and the author explains each excerpt and how to apply it to your life. Fuking excellent book I cannot recommend it enough.

Checking in on this thread; reading my post here from January has just been a marker to see where I'm at so far this year, and what the trajectory is looking like. A lot has changed since then; It's been a year of ups and downs to this point, but I've been as mindful of sitting back and using my racing thoughts as an asset rather than a source of anxiety. To all of the brahs that overthink: use it to your advantage! My successes this year have come when I've trusted myself, my self confidence and my principles. With this, I know I have what it takes to accomplish what I want with the best of them….It's true that we as logically thinking men can achieve what we're after with the right mindset and some legwork. To all those still struggling to find purpose or comfort daily, please stick with it. One small catalyst could change everything.

Great thread, one of the top misc threads ever IMO. And I've been here for quite a while now.

Well said bro, I had the exact same experience, instead of using overthinking to find possible problems, I used it to finally find possible solutions.
Company went from almost bankrupt and poor morale in Jan, to now bringing in modest profit.

Gotta say, when things turn well it's easy to neglect positive thinking, or turn it into a mechanical routine.
It never ends, e.g. when writing 3 things you're grateful for, gotta go bare and be real, every day brings new unique experiences to acknowledge.
