I still do BJJ/Kickboxing & boxing. Will prob go til I'm 50+. Get too much pent up energy without getting in some regular martial arts training. It truly becomes a lifestyle over time.

Respect to all people who train here.

Still training judo regularly. I made it to shodan after being a forever brown belt for about a decade. I took a break from judo many years ago and did bjj for about 4 years…got to blue.

I love martial arts and would like to go back to bjj at some point. I still attend judo tournaments occasionally and do bjj seminars when I can…as well as judo adjacent arts like Sambo, danzen Ryu jiu-jitsu…no gi stuff. Anything grappling related.

I fenced briefly when younger and may take up kendo at some point. Maybe iaido. And side training now in karate just for extra conditioning and taking it all in. I train a lot…4-5 days a week for 2 hrs and will just keep going while my body allows.

For strength training I do abbreviated workouts using the 531 method and lift at home…got one of those stretching machines and slowly regaining the flexibility I had in my youth. Then I practiced karate and tkd and could do a split and very high kicks. Now it's pretty much low kicks.

Kind of wish I had played wrestling instead of football in high school but I did love football and crashing into people.

Cant speak for Tae Kwon Do, the Chun and Aikido, though if trained properly I'm sure they would have some techniques that work. There are only so many ways you can throw a punch or kick
Thats some good chit right there. More of a JKD guy but those vids were good. I wouldnt even bother with him. He talks just to talk. Ive been studying over 20 years. I know what works. Even MMA has its limitations with rules. Thats why i never trained traditionally. I use the JKD approach. Use what works discard the rest

Your thoughts on Krav? When I moved I went to a few Krav sessions to investigate it. I liked the realism of it, and also, crucially, you train with full aggression as if it was an actual attacker. That, I feel, is necessary for your training to even be worth bothering with. We wore cups etc. when we practised groin attacks and stuff.

I was skeptical of knife defences, and still am. I asked the demonstrator as a kind of test, because in practising a disarm the fake knife would have slashed my fingers. I said ' if that were a real incident, it would have cut my fingers off'. He said ' that's better than dying, though' and true, it was. They also emphasized that if you can hand over your wallet etc. without having to fight, do it. Regardless of your training.

I think if you really get into chit, you end the encounter as quickly as possible with whatever you need to do it. If you can run away, do it. If you have to blind or maim someone, do it. I've been jumped before in the middle of the night with no one around to help. It sucks.
Back off, Warchild.

head punches are useless with those giant helmets on, that karate is still gay. TKD and karate are useless to real fights. I cant imagine wasting years of your life training in them only to get beat up in a street fight by an untrained average Timmy.

I train/trained in both, as well as Muay Thai and Japanese Jujutsu and have never been beat up by an average anybody
They are fighting with no protection except for the helmet, thin sparring gloves or bare knuckle lol
Karateka in UFC would say it works. And karate combat. And my own experience. What do you think of this dough boy?

Never knew what angle he was coming from.If it was a real fight i dont know if i would of won. He could punch harder than any boxer i knew

BRB going to go train to "fight" and train in the least effective methods possible when there are many proven methods that are superior.

That is a low IQ move.

I was skeptical of knife defences, and still am. I asked the demonstrator as a kind of test, because in practising a disarm the fake knife would have slashed my fingers. A lot of Krav Maga orgs have done away with knife disarms or at the very least they aren't taught as often.

There are legit gun, knife, and baton disarms. But, unless they were heavily trained their likelihood of success would be low. They also depend on an encounter at a certain distance which you might not get.

There's a judo kata with some of these and they do work. Well..they CAN work.

I wouldn't want to try them out but if your situation requires a last ditch effort I would rather at least have a last ditch effort.
