You're saying that low pay, would lead to better or livable wages right? It doesn't. Even in poorer countries, where the cost of living is lower, they are still making non livable wages.
Also, you're wrong that there aren't expensive places to live in developing countries. There are rich and middle class people in those countries, but they are the minority.
When they can get away paying people crap wages, they will. And because people are desperate (especially when there is no welfare state) they will accept chitty pay.

People often have to explain things to him multiple times, for him to understand the point being made. I'm not even being dick, if you look back overthisthread, you'll see exactly what I just described.

It’s clearly liveable since they aren’t dead. They get a bowl of rice or whatever. That’s the market in that country.
The market in the U.K. is a roof over your head, basic food, kids not starving etc. Not the latest telly, new car, non shared accommodation, etc etc. You can’t do that on 25k in Milton Keynes. Tell me again why Amazon needs it’s wages subsidised by the government?
Anytime the government takes money from somewhere (tax) it loses a great deal of it in administration, then distributes it (benefits). It’s like giving someone a blood transfusion by taking it out of one arm, sloshing some on the floor, and putting what’s left back in the other arm. Ridiculous.

When politicians and political pundits talk about a liveable wage, the don't mean enough money that you can live in a tent, on store brand beans, and rice. They mean able to afford a decent quality of life, able to afford decent food, sanitation, temperature regulation, shelter, etc.

If you are OK with people living in Shanty towns whilst working in factories in developing countries, then are you OK with families in the UK only making enough money to live in a bedsit, and feed their children beans and rice? They are still alive. So, are you OK with those living conditions for families in the UK?

As inefficient as it often is, it's better than the free market solution.Take a look at the what happened to the poverty rate in Chile, once Pincochet implemented Milton Friedman's/Chicago Boy's free market capitalism. It doubled. It only began to decrease once he died, and the state began implementing social intervention policies.
(Pincohet's Chile was Authoritarian in regards to governance, but free market capitalist economically.)

Why would that happen? Under the specific change that I want to make, taking away subsidy, there are three possibilities (using the amazon example, same for any other major international)
Amazon stays where it is, has to pay more or workers will leave
Amazon moves to a cheaper cost of living area bringing economic opportunity to a more deprived region (huge arguments for this in the U.K. where most wealth is concentrated in and around London)
Amazon leaves the country altogether (no earnings in the U.K. )
There is still a market for low paid, low skilled work. There always will be. Artificially distorting it is expensive and counter productive.

Your literal response to the living wage argument for people in developing countries was "They are still living", so what does it matter if a UK family are only being paid enough to living in a bedsit, eating rice and beans... They are still alive?
Also... Sweatshops are not confined to Bangladesh. They happen anywhere that corporations can get away with paying people crap, and providing crappy working conditions.
Why would that happen? Under the specific change that I want to make, taking away subsidy, there are three possibilities (using the amazon example, same for any other major international)

There is a 4th thing that could happen, and has happened for decades around the world...Amazon stays where it is, has to pay more or workers will leave
Amazon moves to a cheaper cost of living area bringing economic opportunity to a more deprived region (huge arguments for this in the U.K. where most wealth is concentrated in and around London)
Amazon leaves the country altogether (no earnings in the U.K. )
Amazon pays below livable wages, and so do all other mega corporations, because there is no minimum wage or social safety net. So (like what happens in other countries) multiple members of the extended family work, being paid below livable wages, and they pool their money in order to subsist.
There is still a market for low paid, low skilled work. .
Yeah, and they'll be paid less for the work. (e.g. Chile.)"You know what your boss is telling you when they pay you minimum wage? If I could pay you less, I would. It's just not allowed." - Chris Rock.

This thread is hilarious and sad at the same time.
Hint; Is having a system where there is centralized control of the money supply a free market capitalist model or a socialist one?

Nor do I, in case that's what you are implying. (There are a few posters here on the misc who are right wing, who I respect. There is even one who is a literal fascist.)Dude is one of the biggest trolls on R/P. Literally all he does is post sarcastic comments to leftist posters.

All he basically does is post sarcastic questions in reply to peoples posts, and always misrepresents or misinterprets what people say.
People often have to explain things to him multiple times, for him to understand the point being made. I'm not even being dick, if you look back overthisthread, you'll see exactly what I just described.

You are spending more of your income to buy a house today than you did 30 or 40 years ago.
I would still tell my kids to buy today, if they were in a position to do so, but housing takes a larger percentage of your paycheque today than it did before.

People will write a couple of paragraphs, and he posts literallyone linesarcastic questions in response.Other posters mix actual arguments in with sarcasm. IMO that is a significant difference.
I'm honestly baffled by why you find him reasonable... But OK... I don't think this is going to go anywhere.
