Basketball is Canadian, invented by a Canadian.

No one is saying one of the best basketball players ever wouldn't be good at rugby. They're saying some ****ing useless punter who probably can't even pass the ball could not today go and be on any team anywhere that matters. That's a fact.

The point is, even C grade athletes in America are far superior talents to anyone else you're going to find playing in some poverty rugby league.

Almost true. Guy on the detoilet lions couldn't even get a starting gig on some English amateur squad. Even that mediocre NRL player got into the NFL even if he was chit.

For some reason USAcels think you just need to run fast in a straight line for 4 seconds, bench/squat/deadlift a lot and you can dominate skill based sports.

50+ athletic freaks on a team, I don't get why they still need a specialist punter. Surely one of them can kick a football as well.

Kicking? Not really in the Ameribrahs skill set. They tend to bring in English kickers, like Mick Luckurst.

Is this fair?

- African American NFL players are a lot more athletic than Rugby Union players.
- NFL players have higher skill levels in a couple of specialized areas while rugby players have lower skill levels but in more areas.
- Majority of NFL players would be above average physically to play rugby but be below average in other areas.
- Rugby players are generally tougher

- Marquette King would not even come close to dominating

- I would say african americans are better athletes period due to the "selective breeding" during slavery - Not saying it was a good thing but black americans just have bonkers genetics because of it.
- Yes ofc. THey play specific roles so they would be more specialised
- I dont fully agree. There are some freaks in Rugby. Not just physically but mentally which is a huge component. You cant compare the physical and mental strain of a prop vs any football player, the gap is just too big.
- Yes, by a very large margin.
- I think he could do well possibly. But it really matters alot on how he can take a hit. Most backline rugby players are fast (Habana for example), but they can also take and give huge hits. Marquette could potentially be a good backline player or fullback but ballskills, awareness and toughness are significant which is why Faf de Klerk is so good. He is actually pretty small for rugby, but he is an absolute unit and tough as hell.

All this said, I actually respect Marquette's response at the end of all this to the criticism. It showed a lot of class actually.

American football positions are all highly specialised so the atheletes are there to be very good at one specific thing, meanwhile positions in rugby are more interchangeable, the game is more fluid and not stop/start, it also require endurance, so there’s a trade off between size and stamina

A good example is in NFL you have kickers who come on just to kick the field goals, in rugby you also kick penalties and conversions, normally the fly half will do this. However the fly half also has to pass the ball, kick the ball from hand for territory, take the ball into contact, Ruck, play for 80 minutes straight and make tackles on defense. So NFL players are very good at one specific thing and no rugby player would be as good as they are at that one skill, however rugby players have a much wider breadth of skills, they all have to play continuously, they all have to tackle and pass, the all have to be able to take and give out hits and play offense and defence

This is true. Even a lot of college football teams have Aussie punters. There are more foreign punters and kickers than every other position combined. We have some problems in the US but our athletes are insane. You'd be amazed at the level of talent even in a relatively small state in the south like Louisiana
