Probably the most neglected and misunderstood feature which is a shame because there are so many situations where matrix still gets it wrong. On a Canon if I remember you hold down a button and scroll through metering modes while looking through the viewfinder but on my Nikons it's on a small dial next to the viewfinder which is awkward so I have it assigned to a function button for momentarily enabling it to meter highlights while holding the button down — really convenient. It's also nice that you can spot meter off any focus point with Nikon. If I'm not mistaken Canon reserves that luxury for the 1D.
Spot metering is even more accurate if you're using a tele so you can zoom in and get closer to a 1° degree spot like the pro handheld meters.

I knew my next camera would be mirrorless I just expected it to likely be Sony. Glad I didn't buy a D850. A LOT hinges on how good the f-mount adapter is though… I also hope there is a grip for serious use, the D800 already has my twink-sized hands come off the bottom.

No idea what they charge for workshops over there but here they're getting around $20K from 8 people for 3-4 days driving a van around and providing shared accommodation. Profit must be ridiculous.
Now all the where to point the camera stuff, yes I'm with you. I don't need anyone telling me what to shoot but I think a lot of these people are rich older amateurs that just want to show way better pictures that they'd even come up with on their own, the less effort the better they just want ooh and ahh reacts from other people to validate them. The classic are these 'model' group shoots where total noobs just push the shutter button and all the lighting, styling, hair, makeup is done is sorted out by someone else and the team they get [the pictures are usually not great btw but 100x better than they'd manage alone].

About time they moved to a larger mount which has been holding them back from producing faster lenses with AF. Canon changed their mount 30 years ago. Not quite large enough to accommodate a medium format sensor but they could definitely scale up to something in between and take advantage of existing tilt-shift designs for a larger image circle. Looks promising. Hopefully the adapter works flawlessly.
People want the latest and greatest even if all they're photographing is their pet cat so I'd expect the demand for this thing to be crazy. The upside is it will take the focus away from the D850 which means better deals for those of us in the market for one.

Let's say you wanted a shot of one of those turquoise lakes in NZ with lupine in the foreground and the alps in the background. First you'd need to know exactly where it grows and that means doing a lot of scouting and driving around. Next you have to be there at the right time of year when it grows. Then you'd need to scout the location in advance to know it will work for the composition you had in mind. Maybe you find some scouting online but there's a better shot closer to the lake but access is only by 4WD via a private unsealed road you can't find on Google Maps. Then you'd have to be there at the right time. Maybe it looks better at sunrise than sunset which means setting off in the dark.
A local photographer who has done this 100 times before can obviously get you there more easily than you'll figure it out. So after returning there several times probably racking up several thousand in plane tickets and accommodation you might have been better off paying a professional and trying to get the shot the first time. That's the kind of scenario where I could see it being worth it, especially somewhere more remote like Alaska, Iceland, Patagonia, etc.
I was talking about this with Foques and he said something that resonated with me. Some of these locations are overdone and the location I was at definitely qualifies. Sure you get the shot, maybe get lucky with light as was the case when that workshop group rolled up, but how much does it really mean to you? It's definitely more rewarding seeking out lesser known spots on your own and finding compositions that haven't been flogged to death.

And here it is, the new
Nikon Z-Noct-Nikkor 58mm f/0.95
Here is the new lenses release schedule :
35mm and 50mm 1.8 among the first available lenses
The adapter :
And that is very cool :
- In-camera VR (Vibration Reduction) available when attaching a NIKKOR F lens without built-in VR ; in-camera VR also performs well with movie recording
- When attaching a NIKKOR F lens with built-in VR, lens VR and in-camera VR effectively work together to compensate for camera shake by enabling three-axis VR

The Z6, the low light 24 mega pixel version is on pre order for $1,996.95 on Adorama.

Good news for 4k video:
It comes with uncompressed 10bit output via hdmi and a new N-log: "Preserve maximum detail, dynamic range, shadows and highlights for more control in creativity in post-processing."

A lot of youtube photographers are going balls deep on the Z6/7. Looks like people invited to the press event had issues and weren't too impressed, saying it's similar to last gen Sony/Fuji mirrorless.

I'm still on that CF card time with a D800E but I like having the SD slot either for JPEG backup, overflow, or as a main card when the CFs are full. I maxed out everything on a recent trip and even considered a micro SD for my phone in an SD card adapter. Didn't need it but nice to know I could. Not possible with the Z6/Z7.
The question is why ? Is it because they don't want to cannibalize the D8xx series? That's more of a Canon move. I'm surprised they would do it. If it was to keep the size down even Micro SD would be better than nothing. I like almost everything else I've seen (battery life is a fail as expected) but one card slot is a deal breaker for me.

Is this one of the pre-production reviews you're talking about?
Last time I watched one of their videos I think they had around 50K followers. Now at 1M. Having that kind of audience allows them to be more critical instead of nuthugging the big manufacturers for perks which is good for consumers.

Yeah I'm referring to this video. And then Matt Granger and some others.
Nikon is saying size was the limiting factor for the card slots… but Sony and Fuji have smaller cameras with dual card slots tho.
I just want Nikon to be successful because the consumer wins when there are multiple competitors.

I know the issue has been flogged to death in these reviews but that's a huge omission. Anyone who's done a paid shoot will understand why this is a problem. There's no conversation after the fact about card failure. You just cannot afford for it to happen.

Apparently all of the negative reviews are with a pre-production model though? Let's wait for the final model reviews.
One thing from the video Dominik posted though, the price jump for the 50mm Z version is absolutely ridiculous.

Such a valuable peace of mind and a life saving feature of having a second card back up.

^ very nice work, like how made the blue pop. The background clean up is very well made as well.
If you accept some constructive criticism; to have it completely polished I would have healed out the couple of white spots on the car hood that you left in. Also the main long dark scratch on the bottom in front of the car breaks the symmetry and is distracting imo, could have been healed out. Nitpicking of course, but little things I noticed. Again nice work!

Just upgraded my drone. Well to be more precise, my other drone crashed (Phantom 3 4k… don't ever get this version). This time around I went with something that has collision avoidance sensors, the DJI Mavic Air. After updating and registering etc etc, I finally took her out on her maiden voyage and snapped a few shots from my backyard.

Do you also shoot with the camera facing straight down? I find that drone shots that are taken like this have a beautiful graphic quality to them, gives a very pleasing point of view imo.

And Canons fullframe mirrorless has now leaked online:

EV-6 low brightness autofocus
4K video
Touch panel liquid crystal
Wi-Fi · Bluetooth installed
Dustproof drip-proof · magnesium body
Battery: LP-E6N
Battery grip: BG-E 22
Size: Width of about 136 mm × height of about 98 mm
Weight: Approximately 580 g
Mount: inner diameter 54 mm, flange back 20 mm, 12 pin
Mount adapter: "Mount adapter EF - EOS R" / "Control ring mount adapter EF - EOS R" / "Drop - in filter mount adapter EF - EOS R"
Interesting that they have 3 adapters for the new mount, not sure what the control ring one is for, but the "in filter mount" could be intersting if it has a built in variable ND.
