Photography Thread

Figured I should start up one of these since a new forum – Was a rough year for me so lost a bit of that creative spirit and have no recent pics, but hope I can get back into it this year.

Not a pro, but been at it for a couple of years – self learning through youtube, forums and so on. If beginners have questions, I hope I can help but no guarantees.

I've done mostly animals/wildlife, nature/macro of flowers etc so far. This year I'd like to try some completely different things as well – city/nightscapes and possibly some indoor architecture type shots of old churches, or other special buildings.

Pls share pics at any level, or questions. Pretty sure more ppl than me can help answer as well.

I'm in that nikon eco-system, but mostly used gear. D850 (upgraded from D810), an older but good 300 mm f2.8, 24 mm/1.8, 85 mm 1.8, 90 mm/2.8 macro. Then recently got a second body – budget model nikon z50ii – aps-c, to test mirrorless. Has great autofocus taken from the flagships and same processor as them as well – for a fraction of the cost.

Some reposts – hope links works - or I have to redo:

Aye, hard to believe that even in Europe we had several of these big cats - regular lions, cave lions, 3 types of sabretooth and so on - one hell of an environment.

Nice, Kim. Can sense a theme there - you should really be in the horror movie business. The second to last is pretty great with the kid and mask.

Thank you. That's my granddaughter and she was 5 yrs old when we did this. She was a good sport but, was more interested in playing with Mimi's creepy dolls instead lol. Here's one more from that shoot...old school film look. :)

Thanks for sharing, Kim. Your little granddaughter did great. Your family scare me a bit, but she was amazing in that picture.

Hoping to motivate myself to get going again now that seasons are getting good so I just send for this new backpack for a telephoto lens setup. Had a good similar backpack these last two years - but a fishing one, 80L, that is top heavy and wide - so it is good to bring 2 cameras and several lenses to one location, but not comfortable to walk around with for long.

Wanted a more slender and balanced option that could work better if explore larger nature reserves etc and just want to bring one large setup - been saving info on several of those reserves lately. Tried sling options and a 200 dollar holster thing from the U.S., but they don't work well a whole day or longer. Most regular camera backpacks are just overpriced and flimsy and not suited to quickly pull out a telephoto setup, so hoping this works out.

The internal height is 60 cm and my setup is 46 cm - so seems good with some extra space and can fit a second body or something else in there if want.
