Nope that is just the scapegoat, the easy excuse to deflect to. People always do that when they don't want to admit what really fucked shit up.

What really happened was forums went full retard on the biased moderating, and it got really awful in the 2010's, and went into hyperdrive after Trump won in 2016.

To put it simply they put a bunch of shitty left wing manchildren in charge of most popular forums and they started bending and twisting rules with extreme prejudice. Combine that with increasing political division and the end result was the majority of users being forced out of most forums. Then there's the cliquish assholes that seemed to take over forums, especially as the user populations dwindled, so most of the remaining users who managed to not get targeted by the moderators got turned off by their antisocial behavior. They would make matters worse by usually being out to get and ganging up on anyone outside of their cliques making it hard for anyone to be an honest independent person.

End result was the mass exodus of userbases, with nobody really coming in to replace lost users. As remaining userbases got more cliquish and aggressive, activity slowed down over time to where most forums that weren't on a massive platform or popular website died out.

Reddit managed to be the one exception due to a number of reasons, but a big on is the way reddit took off and managed to get in cahoots with big tech. Back in their early days they hardly had any users so they would create fake accounts and use bots to drive a bunch of fake activity that would make the website seem really popular. Eventually they managed to build up a large userbase with their perceived popularity, and the platforms openness towards just about anyone being able to create a sub-forum for just about any subject meant they managed to attract just about every hobbyist under the sun. Now a days they have a close connection with big tech to give them data to build AI off their user activity. They have also of course been selling people's data as long as they could for revenue. This makes them just another cog in the big tech machine, operating like giants such as Meta and X.

I don’t know but I feel so much better being here at OB than I did Facebook scrolling all day. Facebook seemed to know my worst fears and just ran targeted ads and stories at me all day.

It's accessibility and the fact people can create their own "forums" within the platform. But yeah Social Media like Myspace, Facebook, Twitter killed forums, even tho by definition forums are a type of social media.

The internet used to be an amazing place from 2000 to 2012ish.

We had completely independent websites made by real people (think geocities, angelfire, etc)

We had all SORTS of various forums. A forum for every single type of car, sports, etc.

Then the cabal wanted to consolidate all websites and users into a FEW highly controlled locations.

So now we only have reddit, twitter, facebook, etc, and ALL of them are controlled by the deep state cabal.

ALL are highly censored, highly curated, with shadow bans and all sorts of mechanisms to stop the public from talking about INCORRECT TOPICS...

Dead Internet Theory is not only confirmed, but its worse than anyone even imagined.

They want to kill the internet COMPLETELY with this new push (from all fronts) to have "user ID" bullshit, so they can track EVEYRONE on the internet. It will no longer be afree space for people to explore and spread their ideas. It will be worse than any dystopian hellhole you can imagine... DO NOT LET THEM ENACT INTERNET ID rules

I think it's about time we came out with a new internet to replace today's internet. Like a web 1.0 rollback that ignores and eliminates all this web 2.0 bullshit.

I dont know if that is even possible, sadly.

I really miss the free-for-all that was the old internet, having individual people creating their own websites, and NOT mass produced BS though "website creators".

Back in the 2000s, only the richer people, only the intelligent people could even USE the internet.

So it was all the smartest people, who could actually USE technology.

Now, any dumb retard with 55 IQ can get online and "make a blog" or a "v-log" etc.

The retarded masses have FLOODED the internet, and now we have shitloads of bots and AI and scammers/spammers, shitting it up

Now hear me out, I think all we would really need is some type of "deepweb" search engine that isn't just some source of fucked up degenerate shit. Like an old school yahoo search in a sense, OG google, something that ignores any web 2.0 sites and platforms and just gives people easy access to smaller websites. Sort of an indie internet, like independent internet. I think that would naturally appeal to more intelligent and tech savvy users anyways, and it would eliminate the ignorant masses that have flooded into all the major platforms.

But yeah you are spot on for why the internet sucks today. Back in the golden age of the internet the average internet users was American and somewhat tech savvy. Like all the forums were populated exclusively with American 20 somethings and teenagers. It was rare to encounter people from Europe and Asia, let alone any 3'rd world countries. Smartphones changed all of that, all of a sudden any ignorant 3'rd worlder living in some fucked up part of the world could connect to anything on the internet. So the 3'rd world came flooding into the internet. Combine that with China's mass bot activity and it's no wonder today's internet is so dead. It's like all the intelligent people get drowned out by all the backwards assholes all over the world and bot driven activity.

There were several different search engines too, and I remember how people would discuss them.. "What's your favorite? Well I like - whatever." Then Google came along and squashed them all lol

I'll tell you something else that was different in the late 90's - early 00's too.. online dating. It was a target rich environment and I used to absolutely slay lol. Good times :)

So liberals killed the internet? C'mon

I have been on forums for years, and they have progressively gotten darker, more racist, more political and generally not fun to be on.

I enjoy browsing forums and sometimes contributing. As I have matured I simply don't have the time to hang out in a chatroom and talk about politics or minorities, I have a job and a family.

I would not hang out in real life with many people here and I do not consider anyone on the internet as a "friend" because I agree with what they type on a message board.

Google started the initial killing off of forums

If you remember the early days sat 2000-2011, google search results were far less altered than today and you would search a topic and get a list of forum discussions. It can still happen occasionally with car repair questions. But for the most part now days you get an AI answer followed by Quoara and reddit

Google changed their search results pushed forums out. Pushed MSM sites and twitter ect

For years you could just type misc in Google and it was the second result. I think by 2020 it was pretty burried

they had a huge deal from Google way back, got paid like $50 million+ so google could use all the content or machine learning AI. so of course they promote reddit in every google result

not just that, reddit had a user friendly app, and the avatars etc. i think they even have games. not sure

and of course it was an echo chamber for all the transformer/woke sh*t to form a community

lots of sneaky people just use the sub forums to promote sh*t for sales

Yeah, the subreddit thing is pretty cool. I didn't spend that much time there until the misc went down. There's an obnoxious left leaning bias across the site, but political stuff aside, there's a ton of great information on there. It's really easy to make threads go viral too. Unfortunately I was permanently banned pretty quickly :(

I hate the layout though, compared to a conventional forum like the misc. I guess what I meant was why something with that annoying format would take off. You're probably right about the ability to create subreddits.

I don't mind Reddit either, because of the subreddits like you said. Can't stand the layout either...I have an account on there, but barely post I follow Arsenal on there, and even the fans on their are toxic, and have a sheep mentality. I criticized a player on there like 2 years ago saying he was shit, and got downvoted 40 times lmao.

Guess what? That player isn't even at Arsenal anymore they sold him lol.

I made a thread explaining why I think Nick Fuentes is a fed that got over a million views. Shortly after I was banned. I tried making more accounts across several IPs and all were banned almost immediately. I later saw Ghislaine Maxwell was one of the top moderators on Reddit (first mod to hit 1 million karma), so it makes sense. That whole place is astroturfed.

But there's no better place to figure out if your Honda Del Sol has a faulty transmission fluid sensor.

What I said is based upon true documented events and personal observations. It's not even debatable, it's simply a fact that left wingers aggressively took over and censored social media during the 2010's and that reddit was doing all that shit in it's early years. It's no secret how big tech became extremely left wing and got really cosy with democrat politicians.

At a certain point the people who ran shit into the ground need to be called out.

Can't stand the left leaning cucks on reddit that start every second post with "well ackshully". They're as much of a hypocrite as you'd expect them to be. Instead of addressing the points you've made they'll go through your post history and bring up something completely irrelevant to derail the discussion. Hypocritical in the same way as someone that calls other people stalkers when they've spent multiple years illegally accessing other people's private data (seriously what kind of loser does that?).

Forums are for Millennial Boomers like most of this forum. Social media started killing them off almost a decade ago.

100% this is how these freaks have always operated. This all came on strong in the early 2010's, I wasn't kidding when I implied left wing politics basically ruined most forums. Nobody wants to deal with them anymore because of shit like that. Either you're a part of the asshole clique of leftist losers infesting a forum or they declare you their enemy and all gang up on you doing all kinds of character assassination bullshit always out to get you. End result of most forums feeling like a cult, and nobody in their right mind wants to be in one.
