I agree. We should. NATO doctrine and the way it's set up was for the cold war era. What we need to do is pull out and figure out who is on our side, and for the real one's make independent agreements.

What people don't understand is that the shift has already begun, even before Trump took office, but even more so. Assets are being focused from Europe and put places that better serve US interest, such as the Pacific theater which we are. All those WWII/Korea War bases are being reopened.

Also basically this. Assuming the USN steams in and opens the straight next week with no complications then all is good. If it turns out that it's more complicated than that then the petrodollar is quite possibly fuarked (because why trade oil in dollars when the US is no longer able to guarantee safe passage anywhere or defend its allies in the middle east), and with that goes a significant proportion of the US hegemony. If it goes one step further and ends up as a ground war then the only person in the US who wins is Jared phucking Kushner.

it seems that the reason is that Iran is crazy, and they were quickly rebuilding nuclear capabilities. They were dangerous to many countries (proven by them randomly attacking all neighboring countries with no logic), they were suspected to be the most likely to use a nuclear weapon should they finally develop one, and that would likely lead to the real WW3. the intent was to stop the risk of WW3 and make an example out of a country who tries to threaten the world with that capability.

we are already 10 guys in a room full of gasoline holding a box of matches, threatening each other, if you light your match, we light ours. we dont need an 11th person with a new box of matches. this was guy #11 making his box of matches, and we are basically slapping him around saying you better not, and showing everyone else in the room that they better not also try to make a box of matches.
