Calling out Misc C-suites like nothingshocking

I’m just genuinely curious. If this cfo for example has a 29.7M pay package she should at least be earning the company 29.7M dollars in value.

Curious as to what this person does day to day. Not just a vague description of her role like creating synergy or aligning stakeholder interests but daily tasks to create 29.7M in value.

Nothing that woman has ever done in her life is worth 29 million. I'll save you some time

The person that laid off 30,000 people made a 39 million dollar decision by cutting labor costs

Chief Audit Executives routinely save their companies millions, sometimes billions, per year.

Fines, compensation, downtime, ICT failures, fraud, corruption, tax compliance, foreign investment compliance, AML/CTF, all of them can cost millions

Don't forget where you are or who you're talking to

Business is too complex when you dig deeper than Sheckelstein and Noseberg.

Sometimes what you get paid has more to do with your leverage than your worth to the company. This is economics 101.

It's extremely naive thinking to believe someone's pay has anything more than a small correlation to the economic value they generate.

However, to play devil's advocate - Oracle's revenue last year was over $17bn. If she can find a way to raise that revenue by even 0.1% more than it would have otherwise, and she stays there 5 years, she will have more than earned her salary.

Too low iq to understand the below without a concrete example

It means she has some unique skill set or knowledge that the company will find more beneficial to the tune of her pay packet - or more - than not having her on the team.

It can’t be knowledge, there are probably millions of people world wide who know accounting at a CFO level. Not like she does any sort of real accounting or financial management work anyways.

She probably brings over relationships with vendors and stuff she’s accumulated over 20 years or so working in the industry. Only way I could see someone paying 29.3m for a cfo.

Can a cfo directly impact this tho?

It would be interesting to see some sort of statistically significant analysis that shows a correlation between new cfo hires and cost savings.

They usually have contracts and only the CEO or board of directors can fire them

A lot of naive idiots in this thread, they still get paid out even if they don't perform. All this they bring value is nonsense. Sometimes they do but many times they don't and are still required to get paid per contract and if they get fired they get massive severance packages

Remember that female CEO of Yahoo who ran the company into the ground and was still paid like 100 million.

I'm just telling it like it is

Most jobs you don't get a large severance package if you're fired for performance reasons and don't have a contract guaranteeing it, wage slaves are on at will employment and might not even get severance for layoffs

I shouldn't reply to Wincel and his armchair theories of the world but consider the recent trouble Hershey has been in.

They changed the formula for the chocolate which probably saved them 0.1%. The CEO looks great to the shareholders and maybe collected a nice bonus. But then everyone realized how trash the new chocolates were and stopped buying them. Hershey loses in the long run but in the short term, the CEO made their salary and their bonus.

I am an "executive". For a company with less than 30 employees, but whatever.

Here's what I do, as an example. We have an appliance, this appliance requires a set of brackets to mount onto a network rack. These brackets cost about $150 each. So what I did in this instance was, I bought one, reverse engineered it, redesigned it to be different enough so that we can't get sued, contacted a Chinese manufacturer to make them for like $17 a piece. So if we sell 1000 of these, not only are we saving $100k on our costs, but since the new part is so cheap, we can make more profit per sale, while still giving the end customer a less expensive option.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Finally someone shared a specific example.

I do think “executives” would probably have more impact at smbs.

Yep

No one would ever hear from me again. I’d delete LinkedIn, sell my things and euromaxx. Be outside by the water as much as possible, sleep in till noon, eat the healthiest foods and workout.

No idea why North Americans have this constant need to torture themselves and live such stressful lives trying to climb the corporate ladder. It’s really beyond me. I guess that’s why I’ll never be a c suite.

Here is an example, the longshoremen strike in 2024:

https://www.npr.org/2024/10/03/nx-s1-5139450/dockworkers-port-strike-deal

These are people who arguably are providing zero value, in fact maybe negative value, since most foreign ports are almost entirely automated and have higher efficiency than US ports.

However the longshoremen had the power to strike and disrupt hundreds of billions of dollars of trade, and they chose to do this right before a presidential election.

As a result they will receive a 62% wage increase to do jobs that could have been replaced by robots a decade ago.
