Could you learn to build custom GPTs and start your own business selling these to other businesses or at least consulting to these businesses?

Seems like a huge waste to learn this skill to be a "better manager" and help out somone elses business.

Maybe, but I think it's going to be bigger than that. The entire way business is conducted will change. It really depends on your industry. And once people start losing their jobs in large amounts your current customer base may not be able to buy whatever goods or services you sell. It's going to get weird and ugly. I'm just not sure the rate at which it will happen yet.

It's going to take a minimum of 2 decades to have any real impact on jobs.

I work with major tech companies and even the ones pushing out the tech have no idea how to actually use it effectively in their workforce. The layoffs you've been seeing from tech companies isn't because AI is replacing people (even if that's what they report). It's because they overhired horribly wrong, particularly in tech, coming out of covid.

What sounds better to shareholders? We're firing all these people because we fucked up and overhired a few years back or we're laying these people off because AI is increasing our productivity.

Of course they claim it's AI. But if you're actually privy to the internal operations AI isn't doing shit to increase productivity. It's basically the wild west where everyone is being told to figure out how to use it, possibly burning more time being less productive now that there's this additional task to identify how to best apply it for each role.


Right now AI isn't much more innovative than an Excel spreadsheet for internal operations.

When a CEO got in front of a camera and announced 30k firings, it was usually because something went wrong and the company had to make a cut. Now they cut 30k and the next quarter is all time high profits.

Either they over hired and are off gassing the excess while profits soar or they are being replaced by AI and that's why profits are soaring. Who nose?
