What's a "reasonable" price to pay per meal when homecooking these days?

Might start doing whole foods hot bar 2x a day

$12 per lb, 2lbs a day = $24 a day

Been getting these fruit bowls for $5 as well

$30/day, $900/mo

Is that too much or nah?

There was a time I was doing Whole Foods hot bar, and it honestly fucking sucks. Mediocre food, and you always end up getting like 1.5 pounds.

The one I go to is pretty solid. $12/lb is way more expensive than what it used to be but with grocery prices these days it seems fairly reasonable for a meal

like a lb of lean ground beef these days is 9.99

Yeah, I just picked up 6 pounds of ground beef for $6.99 per pound tonight. Saw the deal and knew I'd eat it eventually.

It's hard to do it by day but on a month my entire grocery bill (which includes stuff outside of food of course) was about $750

That's about $25/day, but again that's not all food I'm getting from the grocery. I'd guess food is closer to $20/day.

I mean you're not egregiously far off if you spend $900 on food I wouldn't say.
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

My grocery bill is 150-200/week, unless I get fancy with steaks or something.

Justin Waller only orders Uber Eats or eats out at restaurants. If he does on the rare occasion cook at home he only buys enough groceries for the one meal he eats.

I used to get it a lot when it was $8 per pound pre-Covid, and still I always weighed the tray and it was like $20. They always have it sauced up and a lot of other shit that jacks the weight up. Food is only 5/10 to begin with, so just not worth it.

Yours prob sucked then. Location matters. Also I only get a lil bit of carbs to save on weight. I usually turn it into a keto meal with just meat and veggies.

If you're a homeowner, I highly recommend investing in a good smoker. Almost every weekend, I smoke a roast, and it lasts all week. Make some rice, broccoli, and whatever else you may want, and you have delicious food all week. Eating healthy is so easy. You don't need to eat like a bodybuilder to have a good physique.

My budget is $325 every two weeks. That feeds me and two kids. Me- breakfast, lunch dinner and a bedtime snack. Kids- dinners and snacks plus supplemental lunches for schools. They don’t like a lot of the lunches.
Ignore list:

I will admit my Whole Foods kinda sucks. Even their pizza is pretty fucking mediocre. I remember going to a hot bar in Atlanta once at a Whole Foods, and got some chicken and broccoli that was pretty decent. Still though, I can get chicken broccoli stir fry at a Thai place near me for $12 that tastes a lot better.

What does your boyfriend think of you getting him takeout all the time?

Shouldn’t you have dinner on the table for him when he gets back from work?

90% of the hot bar at whole foods is sodium-filled Sysco slop. Even a lot of the vegetables are loaded with oils and salt.

Highly doubt it’s Sysco. It’s the fresh stuff they have in the store

I just eat a pound of meat with a few vegetables for lunch and dinner, 5 eggs for breakfast.

Ground beef is 5.99 per lb, chicken is about the same, I'm making a ham today that I got for 99 cents per lb, but there's a bone in there so double it. I buy turkeys when they are on sale for $99 cents per lb, but again the bones. Steak is more but I usually get that when I go out, I have no problem with a $70 steak in a restaurant plus the sides, but I eat for protein and ease of cooking and cleaning when I'm at home, I hate cooking and cleaning up afterwards.

so about half what you are talking about

If you want cheap, easy, and tasty, rotisserie chicken is the best way. Get some disposable gloves, take all the meat off as soon as you're home when it's still hot with your gloved hands and it comes right off. Then add some vegetables and whatever carb you like, rice, pasta, potato, etc.
