Meta will track employee mouse movements and keystrokes for AI training, report says

Meta is about to ramp up surveillance of its employees, Reuters reports, but in a very 2026 twist, it's not meant to catch people slacking off.

Reuters reports that Meta is installing tracking software that can capture mouse movements and keystrokes on U.S.-based employees' computers.

While this sort of surveillance isn't unheard of in corporate America, the motivation here is slightly novel: Meta is reportedly going to use the data to train AI agents, per a company memo seen by Reuters.

This doesn’t tell the full story.

I actually made 5k training AI models for a company called scale AI.

My buddy trains AI for a company called Mercor and he makes 150 usd/hour. The guy got fired from his balling finance job and just does this now. I think he’s made 150k in 6 months.

Anyways people think AI is trained using internet data and while that’s a big part of it companies like scale ai and mercor hire thousands of contractors across different domains (maths, finance, generalists, biologist, sales agents, actuaries and the list goes on).

When I was training the models for scale AI the objective was to stump the model and force it to give an incorrect response and then correct the response. This is called reinforced human learning feedback and the whole idea is that like humans AI learns by making mistakes.

AI has good uses as an 'assistant' like Copilot and in basic video and photo editing. But its value add significantly reduces if you need to spend a lot of time developing proficiency in its use. It'd be like substituting being good at photoshop with building up knowledge of how different models respond to various prompts.

Part of me wants to get laid off. If it does happen the next job I'm getting will be away from the computer completely. As long as I have my current job though these stupid office cucks will never stop talking about the different ways we need to use it to boost productivity.
