Official word is we were able to establish a concept of a plan for a mechanism to support future investment.

Probably in exchange for everything China asked for, but it's unclear.

"Trump left Beijing without victories, but with warm words from Xi": Reuters reports that Trump achieved no results in China.

"Donald Trump's visit to China failed to yield any significant results for Washington – Beijing failed to promise concrete assistance in resolving the war with Iran, and trade talks ended without major agreements or breakthroughs on key issues. Even China's announced purchase of Boeing aircraft turned out to be significantly less than expected, and the issue of rare earth metal supplies remained unresolved.

Meanwhile, the main topic of the closed-door talks was the situation around Taiwan. According to Reuters, Xi Jinping warned Trump that any wrong decision on the Taiwan issue could lead to direct conflict. Trump said he listened to the Chinese leader's position but made no commitments, adding that he would make a decision on new arms sales to Taiwan later."

So in other words, a bunch of promises, which of course Trump will boost about on social media, but no actual, real, concrete deals/investments...

It almost sounds like they politely told Trump to fuck off.

"Asked about Trump's earlier comments to Fox News in which he said
deals had been made, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun
only said that the "essence of China-US economic and trade relations is
mutual benefit and win-win co-operation". He added that both sides
should work to implement the "important consensus" reached by the two
leaders and bring greater stability to bilateral trade ties and the
global economy."

There is always a lot of theater involved in these things. Sometimes I really wonder when you don't see direct results. It's kind of the same thing as when all these politicians, celebrities, and elites go to these climate conferences. Do you really think they came out there because they want to save the environment. Maybe Greta did, but that's not the real reason. I don't think they would have even made the effort to travel over there unless they had already discussed things before hand and just meet in person to do the signing. The idea that with the stock market where it is, low unemployment, positive GDP that Trump would come begging China doesn't make sense. The idea that China did a bait and switch on the US not only overall would make China look bad but would be really childish if anything else. However when there isn't anything they have to write home about it tells you that either someone lied or they made deals they just aren't telling us about.

No deal is better than what I've seen before when they sign us into all kinds of deals just to say they made a deal and call it a success even though it was a bad deal.
