my percentages of disability calculated with my base pay is more than 100% VA disability.

so I am currently getting 100% VA disability and the difference between 100% disability and what my retirement would be.

Once that passes, I will get all of the retirement, instead of just the difference.

You may want to use a lawyer. I hear that helps. I did not need one.

That legislation acknowledges VA disability is VA disability and not a pension, and it fixes that.

You can get a lot of amazing benefits starting at just 10%. I recommend doing it.

I'm also 100% P&T with CRSC on top of it. The Richard Star Act would increase my pay by about 2k a month. I didn't have to spend a lot of time in medical because I am a Purple Heart recipient. I kinda went straight to medical after the IED and RTD about two days later. I didn't have to be med-evaced out of country, thankfully. Of course, when I got home I encountered a lot more problems.

Although, it did take me 10 years to get 100%. I also know guys who really never left the wire and got it right out the gate. I was in multiple firefights, a dozen or more IEDs, and things like that. Never a VBIED though. I was in the Al-Anbar province of Iraq in 2005. Wild times.

Does LA exempt you from property taxes on a house like MS does?

Yes.

Original homestead exemption is up to 75,000 dollars.

With 100% disability, I was able to get “double homestead exemption” on my property. So anything up to 150,000 is tax exempt.

Dazzit mane. MS used to word it weirdly, but I ended up getting a full exemption on property taxes because of the threshold they set. I think they have reworded it and includes more veterans. It saved over 400 dollars a month on my old house, which we used to pay on the interest. I will be relocating in a year or two and will only move to a place I don't have to pay land taxes.

You gotta try it mane. They will likely throw something at you. Even 20% is more than 0%. I used to be ashamed of being a PH recipient who gets disability but those days are long gone. My life is set. I am past the 10 year mark for P&T, Tricare Select for life with no premium, tax exemption on my home, a free PH car tag and two 100% DAV car tags, kids going to college making bank, and travel freely without worrying about money. All it took was a little blood and meat missing, a jacked up neck, headaches every day, and the thought problems that come with doing and seeing a lot of bad stuff. I suppose it's a fair trade off.

I was a combat medic. 68W. They told me I'd be in a hospital passing meds around. They lied.

There are so many benefits. Healthcare and higher education opportunities for the veteran and their family is wicked.

There are many unspoken benefits as well.

Military discounts everywhere.

Cops run your plate or see your license with 100% DAV and their entire demeanor is different.

I think you may be downplaying the significance of the cost a bit, but everything feels easier after you have endured it and you are looking back on it. I agree, it’s a fair trade.

Your have to literally be committing a crime for it to not count
