Help me laptop brahs
Tech nub here,
Have a 6 yr old chromebook that feels outdated - acer chromebook 317.
At first I just felt that wanted an upgrade to this, and being a tech nub I looked up the different processors etc. Seemed like something like mediatek kompanio 540 would fit the bill as mostly browse and it consumes less energy.
Then thought it would really be nice to get a machine that could handle my photo editing program as well - on1raw - says 16 gb needed and a decent graphics card.
So looking at this one:
https://www.elgiganten.se/product/datorer-kontor/datorer/laptop/hp-victus-15-r5-240161tb5050-156-barbar-dator-for-gaming/916295?qid=ebdbe87887b46d1d23753f7c085cf77c
Says almost half the price from 2k to 1,2k but found it at 1k elsewhere if cash.
About the energy I've googled a bit and chatgpt ask me to pay money, lol.
Just got good charger for up to 65 w and cable 3 m handling up to 100 watts, but all I can see is this one having 200 w. Can't be sure. The native charger tend to be about 2 meters - wanted something more. Stores and many pages don't put it properly in specs, so far.
And even if could draw more energy, it doesn't mean it will when just surfing etc right?
Man, what do? Oldcel doing his best.

Unless you're mining bitcoin or running AI models or something, the amount of energy your laptop uses will not be a concern.

That fucker's going to cook a hole through your legs and balls under the slightest bit of load. Shit battery life as well.
Should do okay for video/photo editing though.

I only recommend Dell XPS models. I've had one for 7 years that still works fine.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

get a Lenovo Thinkpad E14 or T14 if you want strong build quality and you want it to last. HP, Dell, Acer, Asus, etc. are shit.

Trying to combine lowish energy consumption, smooth surfing, and ability to run editing program.

also - whatever brand you consider - research hinge failure and build quality. don't just look at specs. the hinges, displays, and power jacks are big points of failure with many of these consumer grade laptops. spend a few hundred more and get top build quality rather than something that will break and be so expensive to fix you might as well trash it.

But they're also very conservative with regards to power use, and fantastic for editing work. Lightning fast with everyday PC tasks too. (gaming laptops are still better for playing games though).
The problem is, you'll only find them in higher-end stuff at the moment. There may be a few things around the same price point (I'm not sure what pricing is like in Sweden). If a Chinese brand like Huawei or Honor has one then they may offer more bang for your buck (they're banned/de facto banned in the US).

The HP Victus hinge problem is a known structural issue where the metal hinge mounts tear or snap out of the cheap plastic casing on the back panel. This usually causes cracking noises, a bulging display lid, or total failure after 1.5 to 2 years of normal use.

Thanks again brahs, but seems I didn't have to spend any extra here, atm at least.
I got some laptop "cheaply" 3 yrs ago or so - forgot about it as tossed it to the side. I think what happened was (super boomer) I lost the charger and couldn't figure out how to charge it. Assumed it was by usb-c port as other devices, and when that didn't work assumed it was defective.
Then after reading up on watts vs volt etc and old vs new chargers and got everything upgraded (chargers) - plus cords able to take 240 watts etc, I still had it wrong. It was that the charging port was a dc one (thought it was for headphones), so got an adapter for that and it all works again. Lmao.
Assumed it was bad chineese stuff, but it was me being an idiot boomer.
So this one has the minimum requirements to run On1Raw photo editing (slowly), which is all I wanted really, to just be able to make small edits when out and send pics as postcards thru an app over here.

I got a laptop from a company that specializes in serving the tin foil hat market segment. They disable Intel management engine, preinstall Qubes, luks, remove camera, microphone, wifi/Bluetooth module and shit like that. I highly recommend it. Feels good being conspiratorial
