Could someone get killed for saying they’re a flex offender?

I keep seeing a group on social media called “Flex Offenders” and it makes me wonder if you went back in time to the early 1990s and told people you were a flex offender, could they take it out of context and you could end up getting killed because they think you’re a sex offender?
