How did John Kiriakou prevent himself from getting bullied in the Matan interview?

Matan is a master agitator but he looked like a little boy in this interview with John Kiriakou. Kiriakou must have done some special CIA tricks but I wonder what he did.

I've never seen Matan so subdued.

That whole interview had to be approved by the CIA. It is 100% propaganda.
