Hi

Snails, the forum engine powering OB, has reached v1.5.0. As outlined in the road map, v1.5 introduces the ignore list, thread and post deletions, a slew of bug fixes, and several performance improvements.

Note: Thread and post deletions are scheduled for a forthcoming v1.5.x update. Changes are intentionally released in smaller portions to avoid introducing too many breaking changes at once.

Ignore List

The ignore list is accessible via UserCP > Settings and lets you hide threads and posts from specific users. Content from ignored users will not appear in your feed - though at this time, quoted content from them may still be visible. An upcoming fix will make a best-effort attempt to strip such quotes as well, ensuring ignored users are truly invisible.



Regarding ignored users and reputation: An ignored user can still leave reputation or negative rep on your profile; however, their comment will not be shown to you. The reputation system is not a tool for handling harassment. Harassment is a violation of rule 4.1 and is not permitted on OB - users engaging in it should be removed from the platform, not merely ignored.

Known issue: If you have a lengthy ignore list and those users post frequently, the first page may appear sparse due to how pagination is calculated. A fix for this is planned.

Subscriptions

Never miss a post from your favourite user - click the red bell icon next to their profile to subscribe. You'll receive a notification whenever they start a new thread. While this may seem redundant given current traffic levels, it lays the groundwork for an upcoming feature involving posts in restricted sections. Thanks to the user who suggested something similar!

Notification Controls

You can manage which notifications you receive via UserCP > Settings. All notifications can be disabled individually, or turned off entirely (all are enabled by default). This feature was originally planned for v1.4 but was pushed to v1.5.

Quick Jump to Misc

A small but handy usability improvement: you can now jump directly to the Misc section from the Quick Navigation bar at the top or bottom of any thread page.

Under the Hood

Behind the scenes, v1.5 strengthens moderation tooling, improves group handling, makes it much easier to delete user data, and lays the groundwork for introducing restricted sections in a future update.

@Allfather why haven't you taken into account not allowing new accounts to make threads and requiring them to have 350 posts before they can. this would seriously fit the alt account issue. also a 1 month probation period. where they can't post more than 10 times a day

v1.5.1 is now released which hopefully fixes most of the bugs introduced in v1.5.0.

Reputation system is also online again.
