Some times humbling when you think about how all these people would be family but they died before we could know them. If you have kids, down the line as long as they have kids someone is going to pull up your name and and see your name that they have connection to but won't know anything about you.

Doing Ancestry DNA I found out I have a half sister. Tracmg back to England, Ireland, Scotland, Norway as well as Normandy and Germany.

Yes. She got on there and did the DNA test because she said she knew her dad wasn't her dad and turned out she wasn't related to anyone in his family. She met my cousin (also didn't know I had) but didn't find the connection. Found her name, then did a search and I just randomly cold texted her and was straight up "Im your brother from another mother" and then she found out who her father is. Found a lot of cousins and others. What pissed me off is my father's side I think are mostly a bunch of rednecks generally and I try to contact them and they are just assholes as though they think I want something from them. Yeah, I have. She's sweet. She has two kids. Older daughter knows but the younger son doesn't yet and she's afraid to shake up the family (her family).

I know my family tree from 1800s. We had a angry blacksmith with a reputation & 2 famous person one was a artist and one i cant say because its easy to identify but he was a bad motherfucker.
Our fam is from sweden, they changed the last name to suit more finnish language in the early 1900s

They are teenagers now so that might be a bit creepy. I'm not Uncle Carl lol.

No really though, this is what sucks. I meet my sister as an adult. Her kids are already past that point. These are things you should experience as a kid, or when everyone is young. I feel just off, like I'm more than interfering than anything else. She text me last night which is odd and we talked about it. People make decisions when it comes to kids based on their own feelings and what benefits them and don't understand what they take from others.

Here is what's nuts. I looked up my father's side grandfather's address and googled it, then did street view and got me fukd up something serious because I used to dream about that place a lot especially when I was a kid although I had never been there, my mother and family moved away from there when I was about 6mo old.

Just ordered a cheap second hand 900 page book on local heraldry to see if can find some on the stuff my sister found.


Initially she found 6 noble lines, but now more with some going into Norway as well.

Yup, much shared history between our countries as well. Think even in viking age, you had tribes that were feared.

Only ever submitted dna when it was new many years ago (and cost 1k usd). Was interesting to get those haplogroups tho - showed my mother's line was the last of 7 to make it into europe 10k yrs ago from the middle east. Dad's line went east towards siberia.

Just last summer I drove to the tiny town in eastern norway where my family is from, to buy a family history book that was printed recently by one of my distant relatives.

Fucker was like 1-2 kilos and took up a ton of space in my checked bag.

Gave it to my dad for xmas since hes the one obsessed with our family history in norway, and has history from hundreds of years back.

I haven't read it yet to know what kind of kings or vikings we are related to, maybe when Im older and have free time, as its a huge book.
