Not which team is better.
It doesn't even matter if it's the last game in the competition because they reset everything every year anyway and no one gives a fuck who won the last game in... say... 2019... just as an example.

Literally no one gives a fuck and all the fans are left with no worthwhile accomplishment or impact even when their team "wins". I admit this isn't something I always knew when I was younger. I cared too much about my teams too but somewhere along the way I realized it's all gay as fuck even when your team wins.

It is based on deep seated survival instincts of tribalism and the desire for social acceptance.
