Does modern world train us to live for continual temporary dopamine spikes?
I was listening to something a few weeks ago and heard a researcher mentioning a study that put people in a room with no phone and connected them to button that could give an electrical shock....something like 50-60% people decided to shock themselves multiple times out of boredom (again didn't have their phone).
Checking social media, getting likes/comments, watching reels, sex, drugs, porn, unhealthy foods, nicotine, constantly needing to travel, etc, etc -- are humans simply predisposed to crave dopamine hits if it's at all possible to get them?
The researcher from the study was saying that in the modern world people would prefer pain like the electric shock over boredom...we simply can't deal with that anymore. He was making a comparison to his grandfather 100+ years ago that worked a plow on a farm...said people like that back then were better equipped to handle what we now consider boredom. Supposedly after a while certain parts of the brain start to atrophy and it makes dealing with kinda doing nothing very difficult on the brain.

It isn't necessary one specific feeling we are being programmed for.
It is the quick change. We consume something that makes us mad, then some cute puppy thing shows up, then something sad.
It isn't necessarily the dopamine we are addicted to, but the change in feelings from one to the other in a short period of time. The stimulation of that is very addictive to us.
I strongly recommend meditating and touching grass.

Be a parent to yourself and limit how much entertainment you get from electronic devices. Even Miscing I'm sorry to say. Don't watch a lot of TV, limit social media apps, cut out porn and esp cable 24/7 news.
