Oh dude my boss has been amazing. Basically told me to take more and was happy that I put in for it. He has brought over a few dinners and kicked it with me for a bit. Super thankful for him. He got a bunch of my coworkers to give me pre-made dinners to help out.

Day 20 since the accident, 19 since surgery. Pain has been pretty manageable for the most part. I get some sharp shooting pains, burning sensation and tingles on my foot still. All point towards nerve pain. I did wake up this morning and saw that I had a bit more necrosis on my stump. I wont lie, it freaked me out a good deal. No smell, no puss, no fever, no redness. I still called the surgeon and they said to just keep an eye on it. They said that they aren't worried and they will expect it to heal from underneath. I see the doctor tomorrow anyway so ill get him to physically look at it then. I realllllyyyyy dont want any infections.

back from the doctor. He said that the black spot that appeared is eschar. Should flake off in the coming weeks and be a bit raw. Also got word that my rods will be coming out in 3 weeks then I can start physical therapy. Good news is that I will be only non-weight bearing for another 2-3 weeks after the rods are out. Happy to hear that ill be back on my feet by mid August. CBRO out

Officially back at work. WFH for the foreseeable future. As much as I want to LDAR, I know its better for me to get back to work rather than delay.

I just remembered from when you were arguing with rollerball with your dabb account that you have a bad back.

If you're crippled, @explosiveMidget would definitely wreck you in a fight.

TBD to be honest. Its just the last knuckle on my big toe, a lot of people with this injury will just rock it as is with very little problems. Others will use a "filler" to make up the space. Another thing that people do is get a carbon fiber insert for their shoes to help give a bit of a spring to assist with walking. Ill probably need to play around with all these options to see what works for me.

Thanks broski. I would advise wearing steel toes. Not much else will stop blades if you get under the mower. Hell, I am thinking of ways to make my ride on mower safer now. I dont have a seat sensor since I have slopes on my property and I need to lean as I cut the law. Im thinking of a break-away cable like you would see on a boat so if I roll the mower, that the engine cuts.

Faurk , it hurts just thinking of the possibilities.

I think I’m going to wear my steel toe boots for now on while mowing . As I mentioned earlier in the thread , I was mowing my lawn and on the slope I slipped on the dew and my foot nearly went under my lawnmower also .
It happened so fast that I understood the potential of OP’s scenario immediately

Please wear them steel toes lol.

1 month since the accident. Have spent 23/24 hours a day in bed since then. Shit is boring as fuck. So glad I went back to work, at least it keeps me busy through the day.

Haven't drank at all. Weed actually increases my pain so haven't been using it. I weighed myself yesterday and i'm down 12 lbs. Probably between not having access to the snack in the pantry, not drinking and also having my leg atrophy pretty bad at this point.

The nerves in my toes are for sure turning back on, the fuzzy feeling followed by a bunch of pain. The wounds themselves are starting to heal, I had some echar flake off to reveal fresh (but scarred) flesh that is healing. No bad smells, no discharge, no fever. I dont want to jinx myself but the infection chances are subsiding. There isnt a lot of margin between an infection and losing the whole foot (Below knee).

11 days till the rods are out (I am going to take vids/pics of it) and I start PT a few weeks after that. Then it's the long road to relearn how to walk. I am excited for the day, but I also know its going to be a very hard journey.

On a side note - I am so fucking thankful for my MIL. She has been here since the accident happened and has been a giant help. She makes me home cooked, healthy meals every day. Takes care of all my needs, my wife's needs and the kid's needs. She hangs out with me to keep me company, tends to the garden and is just a big help in every way. It's been so long since I felt the warm touch of a mother when I needed it the most. I probably needed this more than anything else. My mom was sick most of my teenage years and passed not too long after, it's probably been 20 years since I felt this way.

I am happy to save your toes. I also appreciate the concerns/responses. I am through the woods but still in the bushes. Ill most likely be in PT through the rest of the year. I have a feeling the learning curve will be slow at first, then quick to 70% of my function, then 6 months to regain as close as I can to 100% of function. This turned my life upside down for sure.

Yes it certainly shows how quickly things can go south . Makes a person thankful for what he has somedays . It sure sucks how long the recovery for a toe can be though

I have an appointment Friday to have my 6 week check-up. Rods are expected to come out! I am so excited to move to the next chapter. The wounds themselves are very well scabbed and the swelling is minimal. Ill still be non-weight bearing for a few more weeks but I can start PT with stretching. Ill post videos of them ripping my rods out with plyers, srs. Been doing light workouts from bed, not much weight but something is better than nothing. Wear your boots while mowing, stay safe bros.

Got the rods out. The one in my 2nd toe came out without an issue. The one in my stumpy big toe gave me big issues getting out. Took 3 people trying to get it out, not fun. I am pretty sore right now but I did take pics/videos of them pulling it. Doctor also said 4 more weeks non weight bearing but I get to start some PT for stretching. The free toes are frozen, going to need a lot of work to get back function. CBRO out.

I didn't read most of the thread, but I assume you're covered by your comapny's long term disability insurance or whatever? At least you got some time away from work.

I went on short term disability for a few weeks at first but I am back at work. I am WFH and can WFH as long as I need. My boss said to just get my stuff done and dont worry about the exact hours. Im stuck in bed all day so I dont mind being busy at work.
