My siblings are 15 and 14 years younger than me - same mom, different dad.

I’ve taken great pride in watching them grow up and I’m super close with both of them.

I have three siblings, but they're all MUCH younger and we grew up in separate households, so for all intents and purposes I was raised as an only child. However I do have different relationships with each of them:

-Half-sister (7 years younger, same dad) - Haven't seen or spoken to her in over a decade. She hates our entire side of the family because she was brainwashed by her psychotic mother from a young age. Unfortunately this created some deep seated daddy issues. When our father was in the hospital on what could've been his death bed, she couldn't be bothered to show up or even text him back for weeks. Honestly, she's a piece of shit. When I see her on social media, she's literally covered from head to toe in tattoos, piercings and has pink hair. She looks like a drug addict or a lunatic. It's actually sad, but truthfully I want nothing to do with her.

-Half-brother (17 years younger, same mom) - Good kid, but very quiet and shy. Our age gap pretty much guarantees we'll never be close. It's very difficult to have a conversation with him because he gives one word responses and retreats to his room to play video games when I visit my mom.

-Half-sister (19 years younger, same mom) - Same as my brother, but she is a little more open with me and it feels natural talking to her when I visit. We'd probably be somewhat close if I lived nearby. Unfortunately I'm 500 miles away.

My mom's kids are still in middle school, but they are growing up so differently than I did. They're enrolled in private schools, live in an $800k home, take all kinds of high IQ extracurricular stuff like piano lessons and horseback riding. Meanwhile I was born when my parents were broke 20 year olds, raised by a single dad in poverty and had to struggle & figure out the world on my own.

Very close. People who are estranged from their family are usually the problem.

Im 90% my brother is on the DL and has a wife and kid. My sister is a massive whore who spent 2 years of college not even attending class and partying on my parents money srs. No respect for both of them.

But at what cost?

It's strained. My brother is a severe alcoholic, possibly meth or something at a time, a habitual liar, and has stolen from me and our family and the family business countless times, was a factor in us deciding to retire from and rent out our family business of 65ish years, and has abandoned three families including my niece and five nephews. Probably won't ever be able to forgive to a large extent, and at this point all I can do is hope he is, and continues to get better.
