Squats or Hack Squats?

I’ll be honest with you: I never thought I would be someone espousing the benefits of a squat pattern over that of a barbell squat, but here we are.

I’ve gotten to a point where I like hack squat variations better than barbell variations. 🤷🏼

I have long femurs and thought I was cursed to forever suck at hack-squats, seeing your variation changed my world srs

Yesterday was Limbs, today's either Torso or cardio depending on how I'm feeling after work
Have fun and be yourself :-)

I actually had the head judge at a USPA meet I competed at back in 2014 tell me that I had the shortest femur he’d ever seen. 💀

But don’t let that stop you from trying my variation. It might be the thing that works for you.

Yeah, I have a couple of different variations that I like to use. One is the reverse hack. The other is the one you see in today’s video.

It’s probably more like one of those machines in a planet fitness where you’re pressing your body away from the fixed position rather than a standard leg press where you’re pressing the weight away from you. If that makes any sense.

This video is leg day - one year ago. About 2 pounds lighter.

I’d like to think I’ve put on a few pounds of muscle since then, but it’s hard to be objective about one’s own self.

So you tell me? Be honest.

Do I look like I’ve put on some muscle/maybe a little leaner than last year at about the same weight?

I only do belt squats, hack squats, and single-leg leg presses now as my larger movements. Love the bb squat but I just can't get a good enough bar position with my messed up shoulder.

Keep trying to rep you, but apparently, I've been stingy with reps lately so I'm still on spread.

Anyway, I'd love a hack squat machine but my lifting stuff is in a room in my basement and I don't have the space so barbells are pretty much my only option. I do have an SSB bar, and I love using it. I've been tempted to move over to it as my standard squat variation. However, my kid is just starting out so he's getting trained on low bar back squats first because he's a skinny boy and needs to work on his glutes.

I’m on spread with you too. 💪🏼💪🏼

Yeah, I think learning with a barbell is smart. And I squatted with a barbell for decades myself.

Part of me still wants to make another run at competing and powerlifting, but at 198 pounds this time instead
