Sony will no longer produce physical game discs for Playstation after January 2028

Looks like I won't be buying anymore new games after 2028.

I think it’s a good time to remove electronics from your life. Everything internet related is becoming more shit and invasive. Good time to jump ship, and I just keep finding more and more reasons to go offline from the web forever.

Maybe limit tech use to playing old movies on dvd

It's ok. The last PlayStation I bought was the PS3.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Same. Those Steam sales are a trip. Pretty sure if I put like 10 hours into everything in my Library it would last me until 2060 or some shit.

Then they should drop the price of games since they aren't shipping physical media

PS3 and Vita closing their stores too next year.

Good reason to mod your old systems or emulate and just wait for new games to go on deep discounts. Suck for people that collect physical media tho.

I havent been into video games in about 20 years. But back when I played, I had some discs (or further back, cartridges) stop working. They get lost. They get scratches. They take up physical space in your house. It's the same as using CDs instead of a streaming service: I'd rather just have them digitally

Damn, this is the kiss of death for physical media. I am 32 and my first consoles were PS1/GBC....I loved going to the store to pick out games and all the launch parties over the years...sad.

My last new console purchase was a 30th aniv PS5 Pro...guess I will be keeping that for a loooong time and maybe I will pick up a switch 2.

Console gaming and electronics are turning to shit lol.

And the worst part is now that Xbox is irrelevant, the market leader Sony is leading the charge on all anti-consumer practices since there's no more competition. Dynamic pricing, price hikes across the board, lowering value ... Couple that with the tarrifs, ram shortages, ai obsession. What an absolute shit show.

Does anyone have a 'back-up' old school console that doesn't require any internet connection? If my internet goes down, my X box series X becomes little more than a DVD player. I cannot even play single player games.

I know that I should get some cheap second hand X360/PS3 era machine with physical game discs for such times.

I modded my Wii (Gamecube and Wii games), PSP, PS2, PS3. All were easy to do and you can basically play the entire libraries on the HDD/SD card. Only need the PS3 online if you want trophies.

The amount of games I've discovered that I never played/knew about is wild.

Apparently PS4 is easy to mod too nowadays, but no longer have one to try

Refreshing to read as opposed to the cucks who talk about how games are underpriced now compared to 2000s due to inflation.

Steam has a monopoly on PC gaming too nobody likes to talk about. If they ever got shut down, went offline and you lost all your purchased games how would you feel?

that's pretty wild. I recently purchased a ps5 pro and am debating on getting the additional disc drive.

Disc drive pros - can get cheaper games, play blue rays

Cons - weak sauce on quality and quantity of sales (pc master race)

Steam isn't a monopoly, there are other game stores on PC as well.

Also, if Steam ever shuts down, PC gamers can pirate their games to get them back.

It's still a monopoly. They own 75% of the digital PC market

The point is if they shut down you'll still lose all your digital purchases

But who was Splinter Cell Chaos Theory? Just beat it on my Series X. Gonna play 1 and Pandora Tomorrow

Speaking of which, you're probably better off buying a Series X. Plays the old games at higher fps.

It makes sense

Younger generations have settled in to and accepted the idea of never owning anything.

The obvious is renting apartments rather than owning a home. But they also have accepted renting their music from Spotify rather than owning CDs. They subscribe to streaming platforms for TV and movies. They rent software instead of buying permanent licenses to things like Microsoft Office and other software. A number of them even rent their vehicles, or they will rely on Ubering everywhere which is a form of renting in itself.

They really don't own anything. Fucking sad
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."
