I cannot overstate how hard emissions laws in both the US and Australia fuck over ICE cars, this is not something EVs have to deal with obviously but they have been fucking over ICE cars since the 60s or 70s irrc and it has got progressively worse.

As for sounds, when I hear a nice sounding loud V8 I turn my head, so did my Dad.

Then there is the experience, its not just sound it's vibration as well. If you haven’t been in a fire breathing V8, smelled the unburnt fuel etc then you havent lived srs.

My car is lumpy and loud, it shakes the mirrors while it idles. I get comments, thumbs up, people signalling me to spin the wheels all the time dead srs.

the only issue i can think of is if you live in an apartment or condo and can't plug in at night. maybe if you live in an area with not many charging stations for times you need to refuel away from home.

Issues with EV off the top of my head:

1) It's annoying to have to plug in. If I forget to plug in I'm screwed. Gas is always available

2) more expensive car insurance and homeowners insurance (due to fire risk, maybe not in all cases)

2.5) fire risk. battery fires are bad.

3) have to install charging on home

4) Shitty range, can't road trip

5) guaranteed expensive battery pack replacement at some point (I like to keep cars for 250k+ miles)


there's more that's just what comes to mind

Maybe they catch you before you get to 60, depending on what Tesla you have... but you aren't racing to 60, you're not at a drag strip. you're just navigating the city enjoying a peaceful drive and quick cars can be fun.

Top of the line race spec Mustang GTD is US $429k, and a whole 11 seconds slower with an ICE vs an F1 hybrid powertrain. The two Manthey Racing Porsches in 3 and 4 are up over US $800k.
