Anyone Know Anyone with Graves Disease?

One of the trainers gave me way too much info about her medical life and said she got diagnosed with Graves.

I never heard of it but I guess it’s autoimmune and attacks the thyroid.

I feel bad, she was a jacked natty and she said she’s like over 10 lbs of muscle in the last month or two. I didn’t really notice, but once she said that I realized she did look a lot skinnier.

In the midwest? A physio type trainer?


One of my buddy's sister has that I think he said. Haven't heard too much about it affecting her life though.

It's when the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid, stimulating it to overwork...hyperthyroidism. The body's metabolism speeds up, which leads to weight loss and other issues. It's more common in women than men. There are treatments which I'm sure she's looking into.

Graves is more common in women due to...

Hormonal Influences: Sex hormones like estrogen heavily regulate the immune system. Fluctuations during major life events such as puberty, pregnancy, and menopause can trigger autoimmune reactions.

Genetic Factors: Women possess two X chromosomes compared to men's one. This doubles the chance of genetic anomalies or skewed X-chromosome inactivation that can lead to an overactive immune response.

Immune System Reactivity: Females generally have naturally stronger, more reactive immune systems. While this provides a better defense against infections, it simultaneously elevates the risk of autoimmune disorders.

I've always seen those as risk factors/likely culprits but never "100% these are the reason and this is how much each thing matters." Like Graves looks to be 5-7x more common in women, but lupus and others are worse at like 9x. What's up with that? I'd think Graves is more hormone-y with the thyroid, too.

No not Midwest. She seemed pretty nervoius about it naturally. Felt pretty bad.

Damn so that’s what happened to her?

You could tell she had some sort of real illness. Everyone was making fun of her looks but she looked legit sick.

Same w/ Ariana grande. She must have some legit illness.
