Police responded to reports of Murphy behaving erratically, during which he rolled on the ground, attempted to flag down a car, and eventually ran from authorities, jumping into a nearby village lake. Witnesses observed him swimming for several minutes before appearing exhausted and disappearing under the water. Rescue divers recovered his body roughly 30 minutes later.
