"Chemtrails" refer to a widely debunked conspiracy theory claiming that the persistent white streaks left in the sky by high-flying aircraft are actually chemical or biological agents sprayed for nefarious purposes. However, scientists, aviation authorities, and meteorological agencies confirm these are harmless contrails (short for condensation trails).

Contrails are simply line-shaped clouds composed of ice crystals, formed when hot, humid exhaust from jet engines mixes with the extremely cold air (-50°C or lower) at high altitudes. Just like seeing your breath on a cold winter morning, the water vapor condenses and freezes. If the upper atmosphere is dry, the contrails evaporate quickly; if the air is humid, they linger, spread out, and can even form extensive cirrus clouds.
