Anyone else stop believing/trusting so-called "experts" as they got older?

There's actually a specific phenomenon where most people will accept something because an authority figure said it:

"Appeal to authority"

All you have to do is designate someone as an "expert" or "leading authority" on something and most people will believe them without question

Classic example of this was during COVID when "experts" situated the 6 feet rule for people to be apart

It was later revealed that distance was completely made up with no scientific rationale to it

But most people went along with it

Including signs being placed on the ground for people to stay 6 feet apart from each other

Happens in lots of other areas too (nutrition/diet experts, relationship experts, financial experts, mental health experts, etc)

I saw an autistic hikomori from Portland lecture us about Walmarts advanced covid fighting air filtration systems that justified them being labeled essential and open for business while small businesses were forced to close or owners would be arrested.

He presented himself as an expert with his credentials being his fantasy dropping out of a biomedical science PhD program

I can't imagine how stupid you have to be to fail out of a fake degree in your online fantasy life

Right, it is all psychological manipulation.

No one can take authority from you. You have to give your personal authority up. That is the only way someone can have authority over you.

I was pondering this the other day. I was thinking how mind blowing it is that so many people on socials read something Joe blow next door has said and repeat it as if it’s the golden truth.

Then I was thinking, I rarely even accept an experts opinion these days unless I’ve cross checked it with a bunch of other experts too because there’s so much bullshit out there, you never know what to believe. Even a bunch of “experts” could be full of shit lol

whenever is see "experts" or "sources close to the matter" without actual names i assume it's BS. maybe peer reviewed paper that i can read but a lot of times you read the paper or the study and it's nonsense.
BRB mens sperm counts have lowered.
not a single dude jerked off into a cup for that study.
they just decided since people are not having as many kids sperm counts are down.
birth rates were down by 100k between 2022 and 2025.
completely ignoring the fact we had a surge in births during covid because all people did was stay home and have sex.

it's like people just do BS studies so they keep getting grant money.

then the media just ran with it and told us the sky is falling.
