Every human being who ever lived has had no greater fear than death
This is the truth and yet so many people pretend to be not bothered with the prospect of dying

I'd rather be dead than be gay, bald, short, Indian, etc.
Balding is death. If you have no hair, you have no life.

It's their greatest fear when faced with their imminent death or when going through the actual dying process but most people don't think about it or try their best not to, in that sense they are indeed not bothered
I'm currently not bothered truly, but if I was facing execution in 5 minutes that would change real quick if u think about it all the time and get urself shook at the thought of it ur a true coward but if u say u wouldn't be shook or scared when the time comes ur a liar

Most people fear death because deep down they believe there’s nothing that comes after this life. Just lights out. That’s it.
If you think about it for too long, it’s truly unsettling.
Deeply religious people don’t typically fear death. You will even see Christians diagnosed with a terminal illness openly embracing death because they can’t wait to be with Jesus. However, it’s not the average Christian since most people naturally have doubts. It’s only the most devout who adopt this mindset.

Correct. Every anxiety and insecurity is a survival instinct.
We do what people expect because we want to live. We are polite because we want to live. We want to find a significant other because we want to live. We don’t express ourselves because we want to live. We work a shitty job with a shitty boss because we want to live. We give undeserving people our attention because we want to live. We stay in our comfort zone because we want to live.
I recommend dying. Dead fucking srs

I’ve tried to avoid thinking about it ever since then.

I’d rather be alive as a slave than free as a dead man.

You’re probably right tho. Even though I want to be a Christian very badly, it’s so hard for me to get there intellectually. In the past few years I’ve attended church, educated myself on scripture and spent time exploring religious concepts. I’m with a woman who is a believer, so there’s a natural path right there, problem is every time I get close to accepting it, I’m overcome with doubt. Like I can appreciate the teachings of Jesus and value them above all else, but then I’ll question did he REALLY resurrect? And if not, the entire foundation of Christianity collapses. If the afterlife exists, I have to imagine it’s so far beyond human comprehension that our brains are incapable of understanding it.

Knowing you're about to be badly tortured or suffer seems much worse. How you look at death itself can probably change a lot with mindset, philosophy etc and need not be the biggest fear I think.

As messed up as it is, realizing death is something every human being since the beginning of time has had to go through makes it a bit easier. Imagine if some people on earth were granted everlasting life and others had to die, lights out.

I'm not afraid of my own death because either I won't know I'm dead because there will be nothing or I'll navigate some afterlife situation, which I'm confident will have no resemblance to heaven, hell, or any other imaginary scenario promoted by the various religions, and therefore I can't prepare for it.
What I do worry about is making sure my family is taken care of, so I focus on that rather what my absence of life might entail as a personal experience.
