You are not who you think you are

You are who you are.

You likely have this general image in your mind about the person you are walking around LARPing as. You may love yourself, you may hate yourself, you probably go back and forth between the two, but do you know yourself?

Cognitive biases prevent us from perceiving reality objectively. This applies just as much, if not more so with respect to understanding ourselves, as it does when we attempt to understand the surrounding environment.

The imaginary story you tell yourself about yourself, is not the same story other people are telling about you.

I think one of the greatest things we can do for our own experience, is resolve this. I recommend challenging everything you think you know about yourself. Examine external concepts and ideas that you identify with, and throw them out, for they are not you. The circumstances of your experience are not you. Your fears and anxieties, your desires and pleasures, your thoughts and your physical body, are not you. Your bank account, your name, your job, your relationships, none of these things are you in and of themselves, and even all together they still are not you.

I recommend sitting quietly, getting your mind and body to relax, and deliberately exploring this.

Have fun with it.

The thing you preach as beneficial could actually be mind blowingly frightening were it actually possible, which it isn't, fortunately. Unless you take LSD or whatever, which can be very dangerous.

It is very uncomfortable. I don’t think any human could simply accept this without an emotional response. That makes sense to me. I have felt it very strongly.

I would suggest the temporary discomfort is worth it.

I agree, but it is incomplete. You have to be able to hold paradoxical perspectives.

Yeah, it can be dangerous in many ways. If you want to function in this society you need a functioning ego. Even you can break it down without a bad experience, it can be problematic.

It's all well and good calmly contemplating the universe like a cow chewing grass in a field, but not so much if you need to work a job and pay bills. Unfortunately.

Correct.

Society has been deliberately constructed to exploit deep seated survival instincts collectively referred to as the ego.

This is on purpose. It doesn’t have to be that way, but it is that way.

(My initial instinct is to consider this “unfortunate”, but we did it for a reason)

my mind is really flexible, I can be convinced into radical fundamentalist beliefs over a weekend, then read one passage that doesn't add up and completely go the other way. I have no preconceived notions of what I believe to be true. I think in fact nobody knows anything at any time about nothing. But there could be an absolute truth somewhere

I think that is a great spot to be in. Men much wiser than me would suggest the same.

I guess it makes it somewhat more probably that you will embrace the truth when you finally find it (if it even exists). The downside is that your mind runs in a lot of different directions with little stability

Yep. At core I don't think we really know any more about ourselves and our existence in this world than dogs, monkeys, birds, whatever do about themselves.

Humans are just wired differently for some reason and create a lot of noise and bother and invention etc etc. But when you cut through it, what's the damn point?

What I have come to, is that simply experiencing it is the point.

It serves a greater purpose for the collective consciousness, but that is a whole other conversation lol.

In this frame of reference we are operating in (dimension), I am confident, there is no other purpose than just getting the experience. Gaining perspective. Feeling feels.

Yes, we're not our thoughts/emotions/etc. we're the awareness that can observe them. How we ended up in this situation with all of this baggage imprinted onto this awareness, who tf knows? Is it noncorporeal malevolent entities that feed off the negative emotions resulting from all of this (as the Gnostics and Monroe claimed)? Maybe.
