Why is South America so good at soccer?
not including this one there have been 23 world cups. and south America has won 10 of them.
Whenever the US sucks we hear its because we don't have "youth development programs" like sophisticated advanced Europe does.
meanwhile 3rd world countries like Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay dominate the cup. do they have expensive youth development programs like Europe??

In the U.S. there's just so much other sports to choose from whereas in South America you grow up with only soccer. In the U.S. it's seen as that sport kids played from age 4-10, and then move to other sports basketball, football etc.
Also, in South America any one can play where funny enough in the U.S. it's seen as a "rich" sport when do you ever hear anyone playing soccer in the ghetto or at trailer parks. In Brazil even in the favelas kids are always playing soccer.

not "this kid got into German development program at 8, you're already 13 so it's too late for you (hypothetical scenario of an Uber talented u.s. born kid)"

Their best players grow up dreaming of being nothing but a professional soccer player so it’s all they do.
Meanwhile our best athletes grow up dribbling a basketball or catching a football. Soccer was a joke in USA culture growing up in the late 80s-90s. Nobody gave a shit about it and it was never on ESPN or anything regularly. Meanwhile in their country it’s all they watch sports wise or care about. As a result we toss out our mid tier soccer athletes vs their best of the best.
