I'm just past the 19 min mark. I remember my first dip. It was about 15 as well (or sophomore year). I almost fell out of the chair I was sitting in. I thought 'this is awesome!'. Then the 2nd time, the nausea happened and an early-life crisis ensued. I dabbled with nicotine, but didn't really get addicted until my late 20s. It's just a part of my daily life now (vape).

I can go without alcohol for periods of time, but the 'white-knuckle/boredom' factor kicks in. Ironmanlet's posts have been helping me with understanding my thought process.

Edit: Just finished. Good posts mane. I'll always appreciate it. This was a fun, unique time in my life. I was in an almost decade long relationship and was deprived of this sort of thing. I'm happy to catch up with myself. Thanks for the posts. On spread

Good answers as always. Sorry to throw you off with the public schools question.

Damn brah considering your experience with powerlifting your injuries don’t sound too bad. A testament to good form and responsible training, I’m sure. GJDM. I also went to snap city with my lower back years ago (doing bent over rows too heavy) so I know what you mean with that watercolor paint analogy. Fuarrrk!

Kudos for monitoring your kids’ internet activity too. It’s funny, I’m only 2 years older than your son and my internet activity was NOT monitored at all. Besides all the gruesome shit I was exposed to at a VERY young age (beheadings, WSHH beatdowns, porn, etc.) I’m pretty sure the reason I became a miscer is because I was left to my own devices as a child srs lmao.

You just explained the EXACT type of things I wanted to avoid them having too much exposure to.

I used to enjoy seeing people try my Grizzly Wintergreen for the first time lol. It was my introductory chew so I didn't know it was that harsh. After switching to Copenhagen, I couldn't go back to Grizzly. Then, after switching to Redman chew, I could never go back to dip. I don't do any of it regularly now, but I can still throw in the occasional cheek full of Redman (America's Best) if I'm fishing

I went back to edit a typo, and for some reason it posted a new response. Weird.

Back in my younger days, I was big on Timberwolf Wintergreen, because it was $.99 in the 90s. 😂 When Grizzly came out, it was $.99 also. I didn’t like it as much as Timberwolf.

Then in my 20s, I switched to Skoal vanilla. By the time I quit at 30, I was using two cans a day. 💀

Most of the people I grew up with still dip today.

Thanks for the answers, Drew.

I do agree that you’re one of the positive ones - props for that. Not easy at times I bet.

I tried to be for some time and it was easier with just old ppl on the O35 tbh, but I “failed” keeping it up here. Some ppl are just so nasty and beyond redemption, that the only appropriate thing is to be a bit nasty back I guess.. Or maybe that is the wrong mindset. Still figuring it out.

For me, strangely enough, it can be a good thing sometimes though. Saying that, cause come from a culture and upbringing where most avoid any conflict and few speak their minds. So can be a bit liberating letting go of some of that. Anyhow, mirin mindset for sure.

Ofc heard about quitting nicotine, that it could have such an effect. You had to overcome a lot and should be proud.

It was almost the opposite for me as barely had an appetite at all, compared to friends etc, and couldn’t put on any weight back in the day no matter how many weight gaining drinks I forced down. That’s not an issue today though and need to watch myself as everyone else.

Started using our smokeless tobacco over here at 16, and still at it. I need to stop at some point as well.

Take care, brah.

I'm sorry about the other day man. I had too many drinks and I was just being dumb. It wasn't meant to be super serious. It's kind of like, after a few drinks things become somewhat of a role-play/LARP. You'd have to try it and see what I mean. It's not supposed to be real life, just BSing with beer and the boyos on an internet forum.

Good stuff Drew. Rippetoe's stuff was actually the one that got me into lifting. I think his stuff on the importance of being strong, especially for aging people is really good. I read starting strength back in the day, but don't really follow him now. I agree he's a smart guy. I've basically had my kid doing starting strength this summer to lay the groundwork for future lifting. I was coming back off a layoff, so I've just been doing it with him. It's about time to switch things up though. Maybe I'll keep it rolling another few weeks.

Squat/Overhead Press/Deadlift for us this morning.

I read all of his books back in the day. Practical programming was especially good. I’ve always been fascinated by different programming strategies.

If his trajectory is anything like mine, the most important thing he can do is take control of his mindset. And like Kobe Bryant said, stop negotiating with himself. Stop cheating. Stick to the plan. 🤷🏼

yep spot on it's the voice in ur head saying "come on have a few beers on Friday 1 day a week is not a problem and it will be good to learn to drink in moderation" that's the alcoholism (the devil ) trying to use logic to deceive u into drinking

seen it from personal experience the only way is to admit u have a problem like u have with eating and then solve it for good by removing it from ur life completely

but that takes a different type of strength not every one makes it unfortunately life is no disney movie

That’s the type of thing people do with food all the time and don’t even realize it’s a problem.

Actually even more often, it’s other people doing it to people trying to stick to a plan. Or so-called influencers who have no clue what it’s like to be 400 pounds.

“Oh one slice of pizza won’t hurt you.”

I know immediately someone who says anything like that doesn’t understand and will never understand why I do what I do. No shade. They just don’t get it. 🤷🏼
