Pls don't move this one to the graveyard Allfather.

Anyway, the Heavyweight division looks like shit. But I think Hrgovic upsets Itauma next month (underachieved his whole career, so him actually turning up against the next big thing would be LMAO).

In the actually entertaining divisions, Teo beats Rolly and Garcia V Benn is called off after their piss melts the beakers.

Discuss.

How do you feel about the fact that there aren't any good English boxers? They're always something else like the soccer team.

Eubank, Benn, Lewis, Haye - black
Froch - Polish
Calzaghe - Italian
Fury - Irish

Speaking of British fighters, I mainly remember one from growing up, Frank Bruno, as he fought a big swede. Remember listening on the radio:

Only followed boxing a bit growing up so should probably “stfu” as some would say. And can't contribute more than that. They used to show the sport more often here, but it seems to have died out (on tv.)

A local hero and legend here in Gothenburg was Ingemar Johansson, who managed to become the heavyweight champ vs Floyd Patterson in 59. He was the same generation as  my dad, and my dad had many stories about him….knocking out cocky challengers on the dance floor etc.

Went to his old boxing club at 16-17. Amazing club that, at the time at least, just charged a nominal fee of something like 15 bucks a year, despite having an expensive location downtown at a large arena. Track was my thing though, but was fun to have tried.

Bruno was pretty limited. Won a world title but he looked like a rabbit in the headlights whenever he got clipped. Similar to AJ really.

Sweden's had some alright boxers in recent years. Otto Wallin took Fury the distance and cut him really bad. The Ref would've stopped it if it was anyone else. Nearly derailed his run against Wilder.

Then Wallin disappeared for a few years and came back shit.

Boxing isn't very exciting anymore. The Fury - Wilder fights were the only ones worth watching in recent years. They're both old now. If Joshua wasn't so terrified of them, fights with either could have been great. Usyk is boring af, and everyone else is a can. Lighter weights are gay

Usyk's basically retired. He's vacated his belts. I think his plan is to slap Wilder around so he could say he cleared out the HW division properly (or his era of it anyway) and call it a day.

The HW scene is looking gash right now, I'll give you that. There are other weight classes though.

Roy won a title at heavyweight tbf. I mean he was on gear, John Ruiz was utter shit, and moving through the weights absolutely fucked him but still.

He should have dropped back down a few classes after beating Ruiz. Tarver seemed to get in his head and have his number. He wasn't really the same again

The first boxing fight I remember was when I was a little kid at my grandma's house. I just remember always hearing the names Hagler, Hearns, and Leonard. So two were fighting and they kept mentioning the other. I think the match may have been Hagler vs Hearns

Nice that some of our childhood memories are about these greats tho.

One iconic fight, or whatever, one I will never forget as a kid was the 88 olympics with Roy Jones Jr.
