It's 330 pm and I just want to go back to sleep but I won't be able to go to sleep at a decent time to wake up for work if I do. Got drunk Thursday by accident over at the kiwi base and got a chicks number. Got drunk again last night and tried to hang out with her but I was an awkward mess for some reason. 🤣 My kiwi buddies wasted no time in tearing any dignity I thought I had apart. It's Christmas here and I hear everyone out and about but I don't feel like doing anything. Went for a smoke and realized I think I miss the sun. Feel like shit deer diary 😆

Assuming you're there for work? How long do you stay there at a time? Do you mega dose Vit D since there is no sunlight while you're there? What is the coldest it's been there while you're there?

Yeah for work, you can't really come here just to hang out. Unless you are a worthless politician or something. You can get a contract for different amounts of times, from short like a month to long like almost a year. You are not allowed to be here for too long of a time though, some people go crazy, one person at a different station had to get flown out for going nuts this winter. I probably should take vitamin d, but I do not. They have a "light room" in one of the dorms you can go chill in, it has artificial sun and is supposed to be good for you. My friend says she'll go with me there but it sounds phaggy to me so I have not gone. I should though as my sleep is way fucked right now, like most people. I think it was like -60f out at the airfield a few weeks ago when I was out there, I don't know what the wind chill was. The ambient temperature isn't what will you get you, it's the wind chill that is gnarly. Especially when the wind is blowing so hard you can't walk straight.

Oh, yes, some people stay as long as they can. Some people have been coming here for over 40 years, it is insane.

My contract is for 10 to 11 months, so I got to see 24/7 daylight and 24/7 dark. People here tell me I'm brave for taking such a long contract for my first time, but I wanted to experience it all, especially the storms. 😆

My friend says I should take that chick to the d room (that's what she calls the light room). It sounds boring to me though.

Some people do, and hand and foot warmers. I am a man though so I just wear thermals, the bibbs they give you, gloves, and my jacket I brought. When I'm not at work just jeans and my hoodie with thermals.

Yeah, I'm still hoping to see it get colder. 10 or 11 months, more than half way done. Maybe some other time I will tell what I do. But no I am not a scientist. They offered me a supervisor role but I turned that down. Maybe if I come back next year and the job becomes available again I'll take it.

I was in a place with 24 hour daylight for a few weeks and it was weird waking up and not knowing if it was day or night

I haven't seen any but I have seen some weird shit lately. There are no planes flying over head here, but there are satellites. The other day my friend and I were outside and we saw what looked like a really bright satellite, but it was moving pretty quick. It got really bright briefly like the satellites do when they hit the sun just right and reflect the light, then it turned and started heading a different direction, which satellites don't do. She and I both watched it so I know I wasn't seeing things.
I also saw what I think was starlink a couple times a few weeks ago around 3pm. But everytime I've seen starlink in the states it's big and bright. Here it was very dim and small, or far away. I'm pretty sure it was just starlink though.

Yeah it can mess with you. It makes it very easy to stay up too late as well, especially if you are in a room with a broken clock. 😆
I'd say the dark is more discombobulating though, I like it but it was hard to get used to at first, like you are saying. When I woke up Sunday I couldn't figure out of it was day or night because I don't know what time I went to bed and I can normally only sleep for 3 to 4 hours at a time.
For a while it was 24 hour darkness. You could see a little pink in the sky behind the mountains for like an hour or 2 but it was still very dark, and if there were clouds you couldn't see it at all.
