Having a job might be the dumbest thing ever

Like you mean to tell me you actually want to force yourself to wake up early with an alarm clock and drive to a random building to do tasks that no one cares about just because some guy told you to do so and oh yeah, you have to do this for like 30-40-45 years then when you’re old then you have the bosses permission to retire and then enjoy your life when you’re old and can’t do anything fun. Oh yeah but it’s okay because you get the weekends off (thinking about work) and 3 weeks of vacation a year if you’re time off gets approved.

I’m on vacation 52 weeks a year.

There really are people who can't pass an interview process due to disabilities or limited mental function. For example something like 50% of autistic people never hold a job after high school, and only 21% worked full time.

actually reading the statistics it seems like there is a STRONG correlation between autism and NEET status, probably why being NEET is so popular on the internet.

53.4% of autistic young adults in the U.S. had ever worked for pay after high school, the lowest of any disability group (NLTS2, Roux et al., 2013).

Only ~21% of employed autistic young adults worked full time, at an average of $8.10 per hour.

Underemployment is as much the story as unemployment. 37% of autistic young adults were disconnected in their early 20s, with no job and no schooling, versus under 8% of peers with other disabilities (Drexel NAIR, 2015).

34.0% of autistic adults in the U.K. were employed in 2024/25, versus 55.3% of all disabled people and 82.0% of non-disabled people (ONS).

77% of unemployed autistic adults say they want to work (National Autistic Society). The gap is about barriers, not willingness.

A degree does not close the gap. More than 30% of autistic college graduates are unemployed, and many who work are underemployed outside their field. Autistic adults have the worst employment outcomes of any disability group in both U.S. and U.K. national data.

The gap responds to support. In a randomized study of Project SEARCH with autism supports, 87% reached competitive employment versus 12% without it. The number is not fixed.
