It isnt about "work" for him, He doesnt need to work another day in his life, but he chooses to because it keeps him going. He is one of those old school mechanics that has a passion for hot rods and stuff. He is very smart in the hobby and is very respected in the community, Everytime someone has an issue with their car, they go to him first. He lives in a retirement home and he says he cant stand the people there becuase all they do all day long is play poker and "wait for death" so to speak, despite being perfectly able people. Now this same thing can be applied for the younger guys who sit around all day and "waste away". They dont have the feeling of "i'm satisfied with how my day went" as they are going to sleep at night. Which in the long run will amount to "Im not satisfied with how my life went" when youre in your 80s.

i have already said that i hope to retire a bit early, but even then I will need to be passionate about something in order to do so. I will not sit on the porch all day every day until i die. screw that.

get your ass up, grab coffee, sit on porch until i feel like stopping, then getting out and making something happen. whatever i want to change or accomplish.

Congrats....I'm heading into graduating from High School 20 years ago...crazy...especially since I'm a high school teacher now. I try and tell my students about stuff...but they are too 'Kool for Skool'. LOL....oh well.

I would add,

Never stop learning, never stop being curious about stuff.

Travel...even if it's just around your state or the US.

Strike up conversations with people while waiting in line or whatever...means even more when people are so distant from each other due to technology. We've lost our ability to 'gab'. And having the gift for gab can help you with jobs or getting girls or whatever.

Practice makes perfect..."God Given" talent is largely erroneous and I'm a man of faith. People that are good at something have practiced it and perfected it over time...whether it's business or sports. There's a book called 'Outliers' that covers a lot of this.

Read...dear God read a freaking book, even for enjoyment. Library = Free Books.

Write...I'm in Grad School and my students are always stunned at how I can write +30 page papers on a whim...it's because I do it a lot. People's writing skills are deplorable...what I have seen in High School cannot be unseen. Even if you just keep a daily blog or whatever, or write ..."Today I did...." It's something and gets the brain/creativity going.

You're not going to be a rock star...or a rapper...or a multi million dollar commanding actor. Even I wasted years on nonsense pursuits like this. Not saying don't play music or enjoy music, but people chase things that even they know deep down will never happen. Don't attempt to be 1% of 1%. Look at people who are really successful in what they do...like doctors, teachers, business men, etc. Then talk to them, mimic them...note who they act, what they buy, what they read.

$1 drafts...go cheap on 'luxury/sin' items. I read a report that noted that even wine tasting experts couldn't tell box wine from expensive/aged stuff. Non essential 'consumables', go cheap. Get the liquor in the plastic bottle. Friends shouldn't care and buying expensive stuff won't 'class you up'.

Remember, Paris Hilton showed us that being white trash isn't about income. Don't be 'ghetto rich'.

So there may be times when you have a family that you have to work 2 jobs (65 hours a week) just to keep the family taken care of. If you are not ready to display this kind of effort and integrity, don't start the family. Stay single and stay the master of you time.
