you don't know if its what you want because you have nothing but a blank spot to compare to. Fear compels us to hang on to stuff longer than we should, even when we know it.

Yes I have been married 26 years, and I have the added advantage of listening to and dialoguing with my 17, 19 and 24 year old children, and their numerous peers. We discuss issues such as: does a traditional approach to dating and relationships apply in 2014?

Answer, yes it does. And it seems to be the consensus that most if not all of today's difficulties in dating and relationships comes from abandoning traditional principles in pursuit of something inadequate at least, and unattainable at most.

Isn't it crazy how little we know in life? I'm still figuring everything out at 29.

@Deenur - how do you tell the difference between heartbreak and general post-breakup sadness?

How long was relationship?
Was relationship more than just sex?
Did you face and triumph over tragedy together?
Did you share the relationship or did one of you rule the other?

These are places to start.

They will tell you that to be a man you must emotionally mistreat as many females as possible. This is a flat out lie.

Any boy can mistreat people. A man does not let his perceived hurts dictate his response.

From an 18 year old I know. Good looking kid, smart, talented and going to be very successful. I will not add to his words, they speak for themselves:

"Let me give you something to think about. What if us as guys were to view women as intelligent entities, that are people and have personalities, and that can use their intelligence in correlation with ours? And what if we used this mentality instead of a cheap pick up line? Yes they can be cute or funny, but it says something about a guy when he goes up to a woman of interest, gives a few quick words, has quick conversations through text, and then that leads to other "quick things." I know for a fact that women are immensely more intelligent than this process, and would operate in a higher fashion if given the proper starting point. I guarantee that the next time a guy wants to hit on a girl, it would work much better if they start the conversation with an attitude that reflects their view of women being people, instead of being targets. I also believe that this would promote longer relationships both romantically and just as friends."

-Figure out early what is important; you cannot do this early enough
-Dont spend so much money on liquor. I could have bought a brand new SUV by now
-Pick a few things and do them well and stick with them, quit chasing random crap
-Select a career you love regardless of the money, cause you never know when you will be kicked to the curb, unless you want to be self-employed.
-You treat people like crap, you will get treated like crap. Expect it, and no cryin
-Eat right.
-Whats outside (aesthetic) is important, but whats more important is who you are inside (no whiteknight, just reality, deal with it)
-Insecure people always have to have someone/something else to blame. Dont be that guy.

Many people who disagree on the importance of quality relationships, also exhibit traits of the Dark Triad: a group of three personality traits of narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy.

While they are way too immature to properly execute the emotional brutality needed to excel in their exhibition of sociopathy, this still seems to be what they aspire to, and treat others accordingly. This is no way to live and makes for a lousy quality of human being.
