For an LTR to work, people must get to know each other. That means being real. As soon as the sexual dynamic is introduced, guys have a skewed view of who and what the female is because the are looking through a wanker-shaped lens.

Instead, do a few things that will not feel normal at first.
1) talk. about a lot of stuff. politics, religion, values, tv and movies, leisure time, hobbies
2) listen. you can gain a lot of info. some people like to talk about themselves a lot. THIS MEANS SOMETHING. Some people DO NOT like to talk about themselves. THIS ALSO MEANS SOMETHING.
3) Find out who her friends are. What are they like. people hang out, for the most part, with people of like quality. a drama junkie can be spotted early on this way.
4) abstain. I'm not kidding. It muddles the perspective and gives a false sense of compatibility

I hate that hippy bull**** advice (especially in this economy) - pick something that you love and turn that into a career

I love video games and NBA basketball. Will that get me anywhere? Can I turn that into a successful career? Fuk no


Pick something that is in demand, pays good and has a good future outlook, even if you hate it/afraid of it at first.

Thing is, people adapt and eventually you can learn to love just about any job.

We're not living in a some socialist utopia right now. Rather than chasing some fairy tale "This is what I love to do" job and be broke and miserable the whole time, pick a career where you'll make something out of yourself

I didnt say dont work a steady job. Many of us are under employed in this crappy economy. But yeah if all you like is video games and the NBA then you are limited. I would say look into video game programming. But I was also say that there are other things you would enjoy if you tried them.

So yeah, work a steady job, but if all you do in your down time is NBA or vid games, then das it mane. That's all you got. Hope you are happy with it.

This is what I did and I'm going to hate 5/7 days of my life for the next 40+ years, i know thats life son but its depressing . Looking back I would rather have followed my dream career.

Well, I would argue that youcando this "early enough" (aka, too early). Growing up [sic] almost by definition is Figuring Out What Is Important, but if you try to rush that process you run the very real risk of missing out on A) some stuff that might be just as important as the stuff that you didn't miss out on; and B) the veryprocessof learning to differentiate between Important and Not So Important.

Truth. Read most of this thread in the last 2 days (laid up with a broken leg with nothing to do) and this is basically the most important thing to figure out. It took me 28 years and a failed marriage in January to really wake me up. I was a grumpy assshole and a debbie downer all the time. Turns out I was depressed because I changed my life to get the girl I wanted and got married way too young (21). Now that she's gone I got dirt bike (not the cause of my broken leg), hang out with my brothers more and basically just have fun and not worry about stuff.

Not saying i've made it yet, but it's helped.

This is a common problem. Dudes have to find someone that shares their interests. That doesnt mean that you dont make adjustments for each other, but if you retrofit your whole life for 1 person, that cant be good.

Find someone already pointed the direction you are going and make the journey together. Stay safe bro.

I broke up with my gf of 2.5 years. I feel like complete sh!t. It feels like someone close to me died. Do you have any advice? I cant sleep or eat. I can hardly function.

I did it because I don't want kids and she wanted to live in this area, which I don't want to. She was my first relationship. Idk I didn't want to live my life thinking "what if?". I feel like sooner or later I would crack and better now then after we get married and have a kid. I never in my life planned on getting married this young and I felt she wanted that sometime soon.

I don't think LTR's are garbage. I've always wanted to get married.

Honestly I never expected to feel like this...I've never felt this depressed and sad before.
