Biggest car loan I have had was 10k. Doesn't mean I only drive only sub 10k cars. Just means I did not go crazy getting loans for cars I can't afford.

Plus you can get a decent car for 10k. The 20k loan when in that kind of debt is crazy. But it is the norm these days for sloots

Too late, so doesn't matter anymore. I've just learned to deal with it and let them live their life, and I paid off a chit ton of college debt all on my own after only 4 years out. My younger bro is the one who is completely phucked tho.

My mom is late 60s now and dad is 71, but at least between SS and my mom's pension they'll do alright in retirement. Funny thing is that my mom still works and makes decent money all to feed her gambling habit. I grew up never wanting to be like her with money, so got a good lesson there at least.

The more I think about this, the more my mind is blown. Still trying to comprehend 19K in CC debt like WTF? She must have a lot of credit cards man, she prob takes one out, maxes it, open up another one, maxes it out, rinse and repeat several times. Like doe sshe not think she will have to pay that back? I honestly think she is looking for someone to take on her debt for her honestly. OP, guaranteed in the next year she "accidentally" gets knocked up and assumes you will marry her. Then her debt is yours and not her problem anymore. Like I don't even know how she can sleep at night, I would be stressed out of my mind form that.

That kind of debt is not unreasonable. I lived for years paying the cc balance every month. Went back to school in an area that had a higher cost of living, dad died and had to pay parent's mortgage until we could sell the place, debt piled up.
Stuff adds up and a girl who probably has no financial wisdom can easily get in bad debt. Even though, what she has is not unfixable.

Car debt is biggest concern IMO

I've had $22k in CC debt before and paid it off, but I would never buy a $20k+ car if I was that far in the hole like her. My $3k Jeep been running strong for 6 years

The car and the college loans wouldn't worry me too much. Car maybe, depends on if she plans to ride it out till it explodes or if she'll just trade up in 5 years. They're a lot but it's manageable with good spending habits (srs). But the extensive credit card debt in combination with those is a big red flag. That kind of credit card debt tells me she doesn't know **** about how to manage money and probably never will.

like most people said i'm not overly concerned with the car and student loans, i am a bit concerned about the car loan still but not to a huge degree. sometimes it's easier to swallow a new car purchase with the 0% interest offers and stuff but if she's rolling in anything nicer than your basic economy car she's got major issues. 20k in CC debt is HUGE though. even if i HAD $20k lines of credit, the only way those would be used to that level would be if i was funding say, equipment purchases for a home business and even then, there's better ways to go about it. if that's $20k worth of clothes and purses i'm packing my chit and running as fast as possible, that's a person with zero comprehension of how personal finance works and if you intend to marry her, i foresee MAJOR issues.

she should be living with her parents eating cheap food and wearing old clothes until that CC debt is paid down to at least <$1-2k, especially if she's making $50k. there's a lot of money in $50k that can be floated to paying debt down if you live even remotely frugally

I had more debt than your gf 4 years ago. I clawed my way out of it, and now have a beautiful home, new truck paid in cash, and a healthy savings. It can be done brahs.

Would dump her instantly for that unless I already had no intentions to be with her long term.

70k student loan debt... ok fine it happens.

20k car debt... Would break up with her at this point. Shows her priorities, need to spend, and lack of critical thinking as it makes it impossible to pay the student loan off ands lock the two of you out of home ownership even longer.

19k credit card debt... WTF she can't control her spending and never will, run run run.
