Kids from smarter parents tend to be *gasp* smarter, and its for a reason. It's due to the environment.

I am not trying to make any one feel guilty or have the requirements lowered. I just want to point something out.
I'll put it like this. I come from a family that lives right on the poverty line. Neither my mom nor my dad reads or writes at anything more than a ninth grade level. No one in either of their families has ever held a job more prestigious than an accountant.

I have three sigma standardized test scores and have a 100% merit based full ride to an out of state college ranked top 10 in my field.

School is literally just a grind. It's not breeding, it's not genetics, it's mostly just how much bullchit you're willing to put up with.

I'm a white guy who went to college/med school in California. This is true. A lot of these people are just try-hards who maxxed out in undergrad but where still able to get into med school. They weren't able to step it up like everyone else who was working at below-capacity in undergrad. It's sort of a fukked up punishment for the hard-working kids who lived up to their parents' dreams.

This is called the savviness gap. It's the idea that the difference between being born privileged or not has nothing to do with your actual opportunities but it has everything to do with how good your support system is at showing you where those opportunities are.

Like another poster said, the internet certainly helps making a plan, which is invaluable. Your plan will inevitably end up changing, but you should still have an idea of your goals, how you'll achieve them, how everything you're spending your time/energy/money on is helping you towards your goals. Doing that will give you a huge leg up on your peers, and it lowers the pressure to be extremely smart and hard working, though those are still very important.

I also agree with the guy who said a liberal arts education is valuable, especially if you plan on getting an advanced degree anyway. Obviously the money is in the formal and natural sciences, but humanities and social sciences are still invaluable in terms of being a well educated and well rounded adult.

Having good parents to guide you in your decisions and share important facts about the world is perhaps one of the best things a person can have.
The muscles i value most are the ones directly surrounding the spine, the hips, the scapula, the femur and the tibia... in that order.

Basically the whole body minus chest and biceps... pretty much the opposite of what your local gym looks like on a typical Monday.

Just do exactly what I said, listen to the lectures, take notes on them, if you didn't understand something 100% then pause and go back and rewatch it until you do. Then you will be good to go. Also he has practice quizzes as well as outlines already that you can print. You're welcome.

Entire medicine is just memorizing. It is so made world wide. World wide people of lower intelligence but capable to memorize things go to medicine. It is nothing new. Medicine is way for idiots to get rich. This is why cancer or Aids is not touched so far.

Meh, 8 years post high school education, followed by 3-7 years of residency in a super competitive field. A lot of general MDs (family practice) only make ~200k after all of that, while racking up a large amount of debt. Plus you have to deal with nasty stuff like seeing/feeling gross bodies, pus, blood, etc. Not for me, Jeffrey.

Well believe it or not in Canada family med is king (srs). Job market is garbage for specialties but family can quite easily pay 250 just from clinic. But Im looking to run a multi disciplinary practice with others and ideally doing a mix of clinic + low invasive cosmetics + coroners office work and also consultations with pro athletes (already on a couple committees). I was a track n field athlete and currently a powerlifter (silver at worlds last year in the bench press).

There alot of professions that earn a larger salary than a doctor. srs
A doctor is a profession of the past, alot of people just do it for the status rather than anything else

Memorization is just for the exams. There's a lot of thinking that goes on in practice - memorizing in med school just provides a context to think with.

??? There haven't been any advancements in cancer or HIV????

Not true at last in USA. They are PROTECTED FROM MARKET. They charge how much they want. It is not case nowhere else. You can not call around when you are in emergency who will do for cheaper price. You can not even ask how much something cost.

I'd almost guarantee you wouldn't ever comprehend complex renal or respiratory pathology nor would you have the brain capacity to pass a single medical school test. There's a reason the mcat uses percentiles.. good luck getting in if you aren't in the top 25%. And you're calling them idiots?

can you give me any tips on how you would begin to set up your own clinic?

Honestly, in the US, it appears the away to make serious cash is to either work rural areas or to run clinics in rural areas.

You seem to have a good handle on things and I'd love to hear what you have to say

Haven't looked too far into the US market. But in Canada (Toronto area) opening your own practice isn't very hard. From there you just need the right staff and equipment. I could do mon-wed clinic, cosmetics thursdays and coroners on fridays/weekends. Most important thing after is marketing and having run a small social media consultation business I've developed some good skills on that.

You're typing like a borderline illiterate and you're the one calling us idiots?

I'm pretty sure Calculus is a premed requirement btw. And I took Calc III in college (which includes multivariable calculus, differential equations and a lot of other stuff I don't remember anymore).

How am I naive? These aren't ideas pulled out of my ass, I've talked to and personally know a couple dozen physicians doing similar things who have given me lots of insight. Creativity and open-mindedness is how you get to the top. Sure not 100% of everything works out, but most of it will and that's more than good enough.

Yet for that reason America has the best surgeons in the world.

And I know plenty of doctors with sub-par MCAT and a 3.0 through college. There are more ways into medical school than one thinks.

Im in the same boat as OP, ish. Father clears a fair bit of money and spent most of it sending us to private school and tried to promote education and music above everything else. However, I refused to go to college because idk what I wanted to become and have spent the last three years at a CC farting around. Im slowly starting to migrate towards the medical field and work part-time as a CNA atm, however the other week I was driving back from a business trip (I buy/sell/transport heavy equipment and machinery) and was imagining myself working at a nursing home or medsurg full-time and idk. Would I want to come to work everyday to sick, broken, smelly people who are usually pissed off, angry, or barely hanging on to life? Are the 12-16 hour days worth it? What about family life?

tbh im lost af when it comes to a carrier. I graduated in the top 10% of all US seniors, def above avg intelligence, started and conduct a youth orchestra, and a host of other things, yet cannot find direction in life.

How did you decide on medicine? How did you narrow your search?

In my experience family doctors are completely useless in many things. Let's face it doctors are owned by the pharmaceutical industry.

Its shocking how many illnesses can be cured by lifestyle changes, but will doctors tell you that ? No, here is your prescription!
