My 16 year old nephew worked at Burger King recently. He was amazed at how lazy all of the other employees were. He said that the job was so easy and yet the others didn't want to do anything. He did a lot and soon was made assistant manager, and he was too young, but still got it.

Anyone who thinks mass automation is anywhere close to being near is crazy. How much money is Mcdonalds going to lose when the machine ****s up in rush hour and they are getting 0 food out? What about when the machines calibration is off by a little bit and it doesn't cook the food to standard temps? Lol pls go with this talk.

It's not his job to concern himself with public welfare. He's running a business. It's his job to maximize profit and increase value for all stakeholders (those who own shares, employees, customers, etc.).

That would only happen if collective groups of people owned businesses that were automated and earned the income. Another would be if rich people wanted to set up a welfare state with a high standard of living for the people living on welfare, and they will never do that because rich people don't operate that way.

In for when I order Mcdons on my phone in 5 years. Pull up to drive through window, scan barcode on phone and robot hands me food.

Won't be the same without the attitude, wrong orders, and 1 sweet and sour sauce for 20 nuggets but I'll get over it.

What people don't get isn't the robot's capability of executing its intended task (it probably won't do worse at cooking than teenagers, fresh immigrants or dropouts). Rather, they consistently ignore how the value created from automation yields jobs elsewhere. Savings there might mean they can hire more people at HQ, hire extra janitors, hire a waiter/busboy, etc.

Self serve kiosks have already taken over most grocery stores and retail stores. Hell, My local Safeway has 6 self serve kiosks and typically only 1 checkout isle open at a time unless its VERY busy.

We are in for a HUGE change in the upcoming 10 years. Its going to be very tough for teenagers/20s to land a job in the future without experience.

It's going to progress in stages.

eg. Drinks have been done by machines at McDonalds for years.
Hungry Jacks (Burger King) has a conveyor belt system that automatically cooks their patties.
Fryer automation technology is already here but hasn't been implemented.

At the very least there will be no cashiers and the food workers are simply assembling the products, because the technology for cooking/prepping is already here.
