I expect there to be incompetent mothers at the zoo every day, what I don't expect is the barrier between a 4 year old child and the guerrilla pit to be virtually a floral arrangement. Even if the mother were fit properly watch her kids, a child would only need a second to get through the railing into the tall weeds. Once through there, you're looking at about another second before it's too late to have enough time to react and motion toward the kid. The distance between the railing and the pit is only a few feet.

Imagine you're there with your kid on your right side and do something stupid like check the time on your phone(after taking it from your left pocket) which places the kid slightly out of sight for a few seconds. By time you look up, your kid could be hitting the water.

While I agree they're both at fault, the zoo's fully aware that parents lose track of their kids at their zoo everyday. Not only do incompetent parents lose track of their kids for the a few seconds at a time, but I'm willing to wager kids get full on lost in that zoo every single day. I've been to the Cincy zoo numerous times and can guarantee you that the crowds are bad on the weekends. With that said, the Zoo is the one that houses the dangerous animal and it's solely their responsibility to put up the proper barriers to keep young children out. Children are curious and for the most part only know exotic animals to be as they're depicted in cartoons. The zoo's fully aware of the danger this creates and that's why they tried to mitigate the risk with a railing that's clearly not adequate to keep kids out. Also for those that don't know be aware that the same rules apply to dogs. Be sure you have a gate that a young child can't open because if you do and a young child opens the gate and gets attacked, there's a good chance you'll be held liable.

Most Zoos emphasize safety and security but it's not always fool proof. But how a parent would let a 4 year old wander out of their sight in a large place is beyond me. I've lived in a neighborhood growing up where I would see 6 years wander the ghetto streets lol.

Lol at the title. That is not a "crazy gorilla attack". I've been to see the gorillas in the mountains; they are gentle, playful creatures which is all that was happening in that video. They'll only charge if you take photos with a flash or pose any threat to the young. And even when they charge, if you submit to their dominance, they'll leave you be.

My country has the largest population of the world's remaining mountain gorillas and we have about 100 tourists every day going up the mountains to see them, like those guys in the video. There is no fence, no separation of any kind because they are in the wild and as you can see, you get pretty close to them.

The tourists spend an hour with the gorilla family - silverback included - and if there have been any attacks, I have yet to hear of them.

That was a senseless and likely needless shooting of the gorilla. I doubt he would have harmed that kid.

This. I feel bad for this lady. People are roasting her on the internet. If you have kids youve most definitely had one of those "ok where is the kid" moments. Even after just seconds have passed. This is all on the zoo. It should be harder than breaking out of jail for a 4 year old to get into a gorilla enclosure.

Who cares? You cant risk the gorilla crushing the child's head. Shooting it was jutified. Unfortunate, yes. But once the kid wound up in the enclosure nothing mattered more than saving him.

So because the gorilla acted naturally it's justified to shoot it but not shoot the parents because of their stupidity? Granted I saw more of the video than I originally thought, I must of seen a snippet of the whole and yes the child could of been injured but the gorilla had no intention of doing so .
