There are players who in College can switch from Baseball to Basketball to Football and make it in the Professional leagues.
Hockey, Soccer, Tennis players all start at age 3-5 to get into the professional leagues and still most don't make it.

Of course anyone can play the game, but the technicality required to actually perform the fundamentals of the soccer are extremely high. The NHL these days is diluted in talent to an extent where it is almost unwatchable. Each team only has one maybe two elite level players if they're lucky. The rest of the roster is filled with a bunch of lower skilled players whose job is to primarily grind it out, get into the corners, and backcheck. In soccer you actually need to have the vision, creativity, and awareness to make that decisisve pass that splits the defenders to create a prime scoring chance. Hockey post 2008 mostly involves players shooting the puck in from the blue line hoping for the goalie to spill it or get a defection of a skate or stick. The level of creativity in hockey is not even remotely close to soccer.Hockey>Baseball>Soccer
Take the skates and gear off a hockey player, they still have the hand eye coordination to play baseball, even if its at a club level, andanyone can run around and kick a ball, even if you aren't pro level, anyone can still play soccer.
Put skates and gear on any top soccer player and see how they do.

Don't get me wrong pro soccer players have incredible endurance. Jogging, explosive sprinting, fighting for position, jumping for headers. However the pace of the game is slower and there is more time for recovery and rest while on the field. I have never played at a real level but I am a fan, I watch a lot on tv.
I'm just saying that hockey is different endurance. It is a lot more explosive and less "jogging". Hockey requires the player to play balls out almost 100 percent of the time they are on the ice. That is why shifts are so short I'm hockey.

Gymnastic and it's not even close
Supermen among men.
The toughest, hardest, most technical, complete and wide spectrum demanding sport by far. Nothing even comes close.
Circus? The circus world has nothing on this sport in pure physical challenge. Ex-gymnasts when unable to produce anymore on the professional gymnastics arena, 'retire' into circus. Its their retirement - they 'play around'.
Gymnastics in a nutshell:
BRAVERY - Boxers think that getting used to being punched in the face is brave, but gymnasts have to deal with double flips in between two bars of wood with steel inside, smashing into their upper arms and sometimes on other body parts. They land shins first into the metal high bar, they crash into their necks from immense heights and they cannot attempt to do any of this stuff without the required courage. Most people have NO IDEA what it takes, they cannot fathom the amount of courage this stuff requires
RESILIENCE - Gymnast have to have 'Body Armour' or a 'Corset' of conditioned soft tissue, muscles and joints. Their skeletons are denser than normal, they are able to take an immense beating and live to tell about it, or else...
UPPER BODY STRENGTH - pound for pound the strongest athletes alive - can do what you do almost as good as you, even if you are elite in your sport, but you cannot even imagine doing what they do
MOBILITY - full body mobility - shoulders, spine, legs, in dynamic, static, loaded, active conditions and with strength the match
BALANCE - on the feet, on the hands, in all vectors and shapes, in tilting reflexes or in righting reflexes
SPEED - most of gymnastics elements CANNOT be done without proper speed. We are not talking can be done but WORSE, we are talking CANNOT BE DONE AT ALL
STAMINA - yes, stamina, I've taken a few time elite athletes through a basic gymnastics warm up with proper cadence, just to see them getting nauseated and puky in less than 5 minutes
SELF DOMINANCE - the combination of all the above comes up into the ability to control yourself in changing environments and to great ADAPTABILITY
The elements demonstrated in this clip take 10-15 YEARS to develop and perfect. No other sport or discipline comes close to this. You enter at 4-5-7 years of age and you peak at 18-25. (as a male) Throughout those years you spit blood, sacrifice relationships, suffer and grind your teeth, that is why when I see this, I have nothing but...

If true, why wouldn't they put All American major sports at the top ranks? Wouldn't be biased at all huh? Baseball would be #1, Football would be #2.
*Edit- also for your argument to hold weight, they put fukkin "Martial Arts" in front of Nascar. Nascar isn't even listed
Fuk, NASCAR would be top 5 for sure then by your logic.
So you don't have to go digging:
MA: #6
NASCAR: not listed.

The other big part as I said is the rules. We are in the return of the dead-puck-era clutch-and-grab and interference. Players get away with holding, hooking and interference left and right. LA pretty much won 2 stanley cups doing this.
The question is, how do we fix it? Make some defensive structures illegal? Smaller pads and/or bigger goals? Actually call penalties?
As far as the OP's question, I think that espn link was pretty good actually. I question putting flexibility and nerves at the same weight as strength, agility, hand-eye, analytic, etc, but even if you weight those in half, the list remains nearly the same. I've played a ton of sports, many at competitive level, and I would say the two hardest/most training and skill needed are ice hockey and competitive fighting/martial arts.
P.S. Deflecting a slapshot is harder than hitting a fastball. Slapshots are about the same speed, or faster than a fastball, black, oddly shaped, from closer range, and you are trying to accurately hit it just slightly to change the trajectory. I went to a pitching machine not long ago and the max it could go was 85mph, I managed to connect with 80-90% of the balls, maybe half were solid and back at the machine. And I haven't played baseball in years.

brb teams playing keep away with a soccer ball without letting it touch the ground.
having played both, hockey is a hi tech version of footall and soccer combined. given the expense and the extreme competition to get in the pro leagues, it hard to get started and stay successful.

Pretty much any truly competitive fighting sport.
Boxing, MMA.
They don't demand training from a young age, but they demand peak athletic condition in all forms, as well as perfect technique. And generally good genetics/constitution.

Golf.
You try and play 1 vs 1 against an NBA player, it would be destruction. Same with soccer. Same with baseball. Same with everything.
The only difference between golf and these sports is that you don't get embrassed directly, only by points.

Hockey by far of those three OP mentioned. Anyone can do those other things at least at a recreational level. A LOT of people can't even skate and even less can skate well enough to play hockey. And that's before you even get into the actual game skills.
As to the hardest of all sports, probably ultra-marathons where they run 50 to 100 miles. brb 240 mile racehttps://gearjunkie.com/run-across-haiti-film

I am here to settle this debate.
The hardest sport -- by miles and miles -- is none other than being a Russian dude who does backflips on poles on the top of skyscrapers and other chit like this:

Not close at all.
Runner-ups would be skateboarding, parcour, paragliding, etc. These are sports an average bystander can't even begin to perform.

Sorry, but golf is the hardest sport I've personally tried to get good at. *******s on TV make it look easy. I've been playing for about 6 years, and I'm barely above average. Which I find crazy, because I was a natural stud at soccer and baseball and basketball and street hockey.

I have played football since childhood and it is nowhere that "hard". All you need is the endurance, shooting and the passing that's it. Skills are the not the first priority and you will get to the part easily once you play often.
Hockey is in the middle between.
Baseball is way too hard because you never know how fast pitchers throw and misses are pain in the ass.
Footbal > Hockey > Baseball.

lmao @ poverty american sports like gridiron and basketball where the main focus is on the physical attributes and ability not the mechanical skills, simple sports for simple people, feel sorry for anyone who follows those sports

I'm not saying one is better than the other. Because that is up to the individual, but hockey is harder than those other sports. I don't even play or really care about hockey. The sports I actually like aren't the hardest to play - powerlifting, American football, obstacle course racing.
So many people ITT seem to not be able to differentiate the 'hardest' with their favorite sports. Take emotions out of it *******s and talk about the skills. Your favorite or most exciting sport to you may not be hard to fukkin play; it's OK you can still like it.
You rock a piss, I'm gonna rock some Mitchell

i actually think the batting component of baseball takes the most skill out of all the sports mentioned in op since they're pinging 90mph balls @ you but the throwing and catching with mitts not so impressive so overall soccer is the hardest to play
