Honestly, I'd assume it's not all it's cracked up to be.

Once you hit 1,000, you realize that the rep points don't really mean a thing. Sure, you can neg people who have a different opinion than yours. But in the greater spectrum, it really doesn't matter unless you or the other person really care about rep power. And why should you? It's not representative of anything. There are tons of people who have a decent amount of reps, but generally post terrible threads. Meanwhile, there are reds that post some of the most profound things I've read.

No big deal. Just continue to post, and forget about the reps. This is a forum site, it's not a game. Your points don't amount to anything in the end. What matters is whether or not you've enjoyed your time on the forum and have posted quality material.
